Hi: Anyone here made your own shotmaker or have a commercial one that they use? I would like info on how you made it,what coolant you use etc. Thank's. Dan

Been over on the castboolits site yet? Theres a couple good write-ups of different homebuilt's there.

I've got too many irons in the the fire as it is, to be starting on yet another, and I have my needs covered, for the time being, so am not yet motivated that way. Interesting to read about and see, though.

Check out Youtube, as well. There are some vids there, IIRC.

Cheers

I use the Littleton shotmaker marketed by Magma Eng., it's slow and you must watch it all the time, it was worth it though when shot was going for $40+ bag. Nozzles(7) are avail. for $65 a set, the machine comes with a set for $375 US... I use water based cutting fluid mixed 10-1....this mix is critical as if it's the wrong mix you will get oblong shot or dimpled shot. There are a few other critical things to do, like making sure the shot doesn't fall more then 1/8" to the liquid, and prepping the ramp properly.

If you have a tower or someplace that is at least 120 to 150' high, you could make shot by dropping it into water. You probably would get away with a shorter drop in the winter.
