Shotshell reloading question

Has anyone tried reloading the Winchester Value Pack shells that Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart sell? I have a whole load of hulls and have heard that you can get one more go out of them from some people, and that I shouldn't even bother from others. Anyone have any experience with them?

I just experimented with a box of Win Target 20 Gauge. No problems but I also decided that 1 time only and in the trash.

I asked a few of the old time shooters at my Club about it and they told me of one instance (on our Range and they were present) where a reasonably expensive shotgun was 'blown up' because of a multiple reloaded 3 piece hull. They speculated something came apart, remained in the barrel and the next shot encountered some, ahem, resistance.

With the price of components, unless you can get some real decent volume discounts, it almost doesn't pay to reload. But we'll see as the prediction is in that components and loaded ammo are set to jump in price, 20 - 25%, very soon.

Tread carefully whatever you decide.

i have loaded them. they're junk. they will reload and shoot. fresh reloads fired fine, but a few that i kept over winter misfired 25%. the bases are not brass, there tin or alumunum. they will fall apart after a while. if thats all you have, reload them once and throw them away. keep the loads under max.

i load remington gun club hulls. they can be purchased from trap clubs for about 1/2 the price of win AA hulls and IMO work just the same.

I've heard that reloading components are at the point where it's not really worth doing the work - but I got the press and a lot of supplies together with a gun and so I'm basically using them up. I think I'll throw the Win Target hulls away rather than take a chance on them, and get a flat of new shells to work with until I'm out of supplies, then try to figure out if they're worth reloading still!

the cheap shells cost the same per box as reloads. 12 guage.

the difference is at walmart you get a cheap shell.

reloads you get a AA quality or better load for the economy shell price.

They are crap new!

Why would you want to reload them.

I've seen the tubes split on the first firing.

The other issue is just whose hulls is Winchester using? I've seen different hulls in their promotional shells over the years. As noted the only reason to load 12 and 20 is to get a better shell and using cheap hulls isn't part of that equation.

With so few shooters reloading shotgun these days it's not hard to find decent hulls on the ground at the club. I've picked up all kinds of once-fired 12 gauge AA HS, Remington STS and Cheddite hulls (Kent and Challenger) at the club. They are all better choices to reload than the cheap stuff.
