I followed receipe for 3.5, 10 gauge hull and after putting in recommended amount of powder, wad and shot there is about 3/16" space left from top of shot to crimp. Is this normal for some loads?????

This can be a real PITA, which is why I chose a load for EVERYTHING, and stick with it; the published loads depend on you using the exact same wad and hull as what they use, because the internal capacity of the hulls will change from brand to brand. If you've got a bunch of particular hulls you want to use, you'll have to change the wad you're using, or vice-versa. Most presses will also allow you to adjust the crimp in or out slightly.
