The thread should ideally be in the Ammo Forum. Nevertheless, figured the note might receive more exposure here....

For those folks who may be interested, GagnonSports dot com (in ON) has Hevi Shot Classic Doubles in 12/16/20/28/410. Just passing on info, I've no affiliation whatsoever with the establishment.

Classic double is suitable for old fixed choke barrels. Heavy shot is great stuff, just a bit pricey to always shoot it. Good for the old day in the field with an old special gun.

There is a difference between heavy goose,or heavy duck/classic double. Not much but there is.

I read on the net also that Hevi-Shot was not a good choice for old doubles as it was as hard or harder than steel. Don't know how accurate that info is though but I would try and find out before using it.

Standard Hevi-Shot loads are as like you say, hard or harder than steel, however, their "Classic Doubles" line ( there's the tip-off ) is a relatively soft-like-lead tungsten composite load (much like Kent's tungsten matrix).

The "Classic Doubles" Hevi-Shot is made for and quite suitable for older double guns, provided they are proofed or otherwise built to take the range of chamber pressures generated by modern smokeless loads.

I just read on shotgun world today that most makers have pulled the plug on their non toxic shells because the price of tungsten has jumped so high that it is no longer profitable.
