Hi all,

I keep my firearms in a gunsafe with an electric dehumidifier inside the gunsafe. Should my opened boxes and cases of ammo be stored in the same type of dehumidified environment? I currently keep all unopened cases and sealed boxes on a shelf in the cold room, but I keep the opened stuff in a huge plastic tub with a lid that I bought from walmart in the same room. Wondering if it would be good idea to put a dehumidifier in the sealed tub as well.

Regards

I keep a dehumidifier running around my safes (one for ammo and the other for firearms). I just close the door to the room after setting it to 45% and check on it a couple times a week.

I feel as though it makes a nice difference.

I personally don't think it makes a whole lot of difference? Heck I have shotshells and 22 rounds that have been floating around loose in my glove box for years and they seem to work whenever I run out and use them. They always go bang and still kill things just fine. I did a clean out on a layout blind this season that had empty hulls in the boot bag for probably two seasons, mixed with dirt, stubble etc and stored in a shed year round. There was a few loaded shells mixed in, stuff that fell out of boxes or pockets during hunts. I cleaned the dirt off them and used them this fall. Not an issue.
