OMG I was at the range today and a fellow member let me fire his 627 and I want this firearm so bad. Pricetag is a little high for me tho. I was cringing looking at that one on the EE. Anyone else love this model?

.38/.357 revolvers are definetly a heap of fun. But unless you're specifically taken by the look of the upscale Performance Center 627 there's a heap of very nice and far cheaper options.

For a diet of mostly .38Spl there's the venerable Model 19. A great gun to shoot that does well with heavier bullet option .357's as well. Just avoid regular use of magnum rounds with lighter bullets. A bit bigger is the 586/686. The 586 being the blued version and the 686 the stainless. These can shoot regular diets of .38 or .357 at will. Going up the ladder yet another rung are the slightly bigger and heavier models 27 and 28 which will easily digest any form of .357 as a regular and frequent diet.

Then there's the various Ruger options as well. The Security Six and SP101 come to mind.

With a bit of shopping you can find these guns in the $450 to $600 range used here on the EE or in any gun stores that handle used firearms.

I had a 27-2 with a 5" barrel
IMO a truly stunning firearm in every way. Beautiful, perfectly built and finished, accurate, powerfull and am I ever dumb to have sold it....

My favourite N-Frame .357 is easily a Model 27 with a 5" barrel. The only way it could possibly be improved upon is if it were a .44 Special. :)

I prefer the looks and balance of the older guns with half lug barrels compared to the full undelugs seen on many of the newer models.

My model 15 Dan Wesson is just within my reach.. bastards mailed my STATT instead of faxing it so being responsible says put picking it up in another week...

I think it is a good strong revolver, any one object to that?

I think what I liked was the weight and the 8 round capacity. I dont think there is another 8 rounder out there is there?

If you're in love with the 8 round capacity then you're stuck with a "high cost relationship" :D

They make a 686-7 seven round "standard" version but they are still pretty pricey unless you can score one off the EE for reasonable money. But they are new enough that the going rate seems to be in the $750 to $900 range from the examples I've seen. Still, that's a bit better than popping for the 627 at up around $1700 Cdn.

The same thing happend to me when I tried a club members S&W 625! I lasted about a month before I ended up buying one! Then a guy let me try his S&W 1911 and well......
