I appreciate what everyone is saying. I realize that Remingtons and Savage seem to be the big names out there for precision (besides the custom actions) rigs but I'd like to build something a little different. As for the 96 vs the 98, I keep flip flopping. My original idea was to build a rifle using a Parker Hale action, much like tiriaq did, I even have the C3 wood stock. Then I became aware of all the cheap Swedes that tradeex has available. Decisions, decisions. No matter what I'm going to stick with the 6.5x55. I want a caliber that is easy on the shoulder and can be used to hunt most game with if I so choose.
I was going to buy a 96 that already comes with a Shultz and Larsen heavy barrel but it seems to be on hold. Maybe I'll call them anyway in case the buyer backs out.
I was going to originally buy an SPS Tactical in .308 and leave it at that but all the shops want what I consider to be too much.
