Should I just get ONE really good rimfire?

I presently have seven rimfire rifles, I know, not a lot. They all do different things. 15-shot autoloader, 5-shot bolt, single shot bolt target rifle, vintage target rifle, my first .22, a Winchester lever, etc.

I like to shoot them all. But there's all that cleaning. And keeping track of which ammo each one likes. Though it's nice to have a couple around if I take friends shooting. And I like all those different actions.

But should I sell most of them, and just buy one REALLY good .22? I'm afraid that I may just supplant my addiction for relatively inexpensive .22s with an addiction for relatively expensive .22s.

You're a gunnut... so keep the ones you have, clean them and remember what ammo each likes and then go out and buy a really nice expensive one as well :p Seriously though, if it is that much of a hastle with remembering the different likes of the guns and cleaning them, maybe you should consider selling off all but 2 or 3. This way you can keep a couple of the favs and still have enough to take out your friends. Plus then with the extra cash you have from selling off the others you can look into that expensive rimfire.

Yes a gunnut needs to have one quality 22, and spares :) I agree with above if you have to pare down the existing collection to help finance the new one then so be it. But I always have trouble selling stuff.

That's definitely the risk you run. But it's a risk worth taking. Once you start culling the heard and improving the quality nothing other than top-grade guns will make you happy ever again.;)

Honestly, the way I went was just to have one really great .22 - and a .17 HMR. I found that since I bought the HMR, my built up 10/22 really just sits in the safe. However, I just got my .17 a few months back, so I have trouble taking anything else to shoot. Really though, if you have both a .17 and a .22, I don't know why you'd want a bunch of others. The only thing I really miss from getting rid of all my other .22s, was that I wish I had kept a lever action (I have a Savage bolt for my .17, and obviously my 10/22 is a semi). I had a Winchester model 250 (the non-Western style lever action) that I just loved. Why I sold it still remains a mystery to me.

That's what I did. I have a Savage HB Bolt .22, and it's served it's purpose so far. The only other .22 I'd buy (waaaaaaaay down the road) would be a Ruger 10/22 to use 25 round mags in (which I probably won't end up doing cause I already get to shoot C7's).

I would keep them all, and get a really good .22, like an anschutz 54 (maybe repeater if you wanted), or something allong those lines. There are others like Walthers, finnish lions, Remington 40x's, but those are more target rifles. If you have to sell maybe 1 or 2 to finance a good rimfire, then so be it but I wouldn't sell your whole colllection

I have bought 5 or 6 rimfires in the past year and wouldn't think about sellin any of em ;) :D

You know you will never forgive yourself Grouse Man if you sell off all of your firearms. Just sell one, maybe two.

Keep the rest and buy yourself a sweet little .22 or .17HMR bolt gun.

Part of the attraction of .22's is their low cost.
How much actual money would you realize from selling your .22's?

I find having several .22's to shoot helps stave off boredom - after shooting one gun for a while, you know what it does and will do.
Also you need a scoped one, iron sights, and an aperture. A bolt and a semi. A lever. Something with full target sights is nice. And everyone needs a .22 where the accuracy just blows your mind.

Well Said Slash5

I have a scoped one (or four :D), an iron sight one, two aperature ones, a bolt a semi, not a lever, and my target rifle where accuracy blows peoples minds (except when i shoot it at the club, then I always manage to mess up big time)

Right now I own:

BRNO #3
BRNO #4
IZMASH CM2
Walther KKJ-T
Pimped out 10/22
Anschultz 180
Savage 4C

I could have bought a really nice annie 54 and been done with it, kind of wished I had. I may sell them off and do exactly what you are thinking of. Only problem is I can't stand the thought of selling any of them now. The first 3 in my list have shot under half inch 5 shot groups with just the peeps using cheap eley target amo. The walther and 180 I haven't taken out yet but I'm sure they will shoot too. I just wonder if spending more money will give me any really appreciable gains. That being said, if anyone is selling a 54 pm me :D.
