hey fellas, my coyote rifle is a remington 700 ADL chamber in .222 the bluing is in bad shape, so i have been thinking of going to walmart and buying some krylon in dark grey and painting all the steel, the wood is fine. what do you think? i have no $$$

Be sure to prepare the metal first, and if you do paint put down a primer. But myself for a rifle like that I'd me inclined to reblue it. It won't cost any more then the paint, and you'll have to sand it anyways.
Use primer, then colour, then a few coats of satin clear over it. Then just be mindful of your solvents. I have done a few stocks that had no issues, and the satin clear hardens it up...You're looking at $18 for 3 cans.
You could do the cold bluing thing too, but its not near as good as hot bluing. If you use a paste wax over the cold bluing before hunting (apply and buff) it'll keep from rusting...

I painted a 870 express of mine with Krylon. Turned out well for what it is. Prep work makes a paint job. Take you time and clean it up, scruff with some steel wool or fine emery paper, degrease well (brake cleaner is what I used) and away you go.
If you are going to repaint, do the entire rifle including stock. Painting just the metal is going to look pretty mickey-mouse. If you just want to fix up the metal, cold reblue will still probably look better than a $4.99 metal-only paint job.

practice on pieces of cardboard till you get the pattern you like.
If you dont clear coat the finished product, its easier to change pattern down the road.

If you are really wanting to re-finish your rifle.... Here are your options.
Rattle can paint- primer, paint & clear coat. Costs about $18 to $30
Cold blue (I reccomend Oxo-blue). Cost $25 to $40 (depending on where you can find it)
Arma-coat (this is what I would do in your shoes) Cost $29.00 + shipping from Calgary (see TSE link above, beside the CGN beaver)
All 3 options require a bit of prep work, for about the same cost.
Only the arma-coat requires some special equipment, an airbrush is best IMHO, but Wally worl sells small airbrush kits for models for around $30 (last I checked) or Fabsports sells a simular kit for $25 + shipping http://www.fabsports.ca/mainang.html
Rattle can will last for a year or two (if you take real good care of it) Oxo-blue will last a bit longer (a few years) If you keep re-blueing as its needed. Arma-coat will last the longest, its a tough durable finish.
