I suppose this compliments the recent cheek weld thread. I've been messing around with various shoulder positions and pressure levels.

Currently, my best results come from my shoulder pressing decently hard against the top edge of the recoil pad.

How do some of the other marksman in the precision forums do it?

Interests are BR and Prone.

For prone I like to get the rifle right in the pocket. Extend your arm out to your side 90 degrees then bend your elbow and then obtain your grip. This should place the butt of the rifle right in the middle pocket of your shoulder and is easily repeatable

I'd say tuck it in tight - be consistent, and pay very close attention to your follow- through and NOT flinching.

Free-recoil only works with a heavy rig that can track true on rests and good bags with parallel forestock and rear stock.

I shoot both my 6BR and 6.5-08 with little (almost NO) shoulder pressure. When I am in the firing position I can just barely feel the butt of the rifle brushing my shoulder.

However you choose to shoulder your rifle, make it exactly the same everytime.
