I'm getting tired of using an old piece of foam rubber to keep my shoulder from getting hammered on at the bench. What do you fellows use ? Those Past recoil pads seem to look alright. Oppinions please.

I know we are all macho guys who shoot Rigbys with only a muscle shirt on but we need a bit of pampering sometime.:D

I use a Past, Limbsaver, and a shooting jacket.
Cat

And thats with his .22LR, you should see the vice he has for his .300WSM.:p  ;) :D Sorry Cat, just couldnt resist, ya left yourself open again.;)

If your not competeing I would suggest a muzzle break. It makes our .300win mags feel like .223's can shoot all day without fatigue and no loss in downrange performance. Other benifit is you can actually keep eyes on target and watch impact.

Muzzle break eh ?

What would the approx cost be to have one installed ?
Do they have any impact on accuracy ?

Sure would be nice to watch impact. Especially in the sand at those long burms. If You don't have a good spotting scope it makes for a lot of long walks to check the paper.

They range in price from a couple hundred and up. Just take the time to make sure you are getting a competent smith to do the work. It increases accuracy in every aspect. One you are not flinching from anticipated recoil or feeling ill effects from it. 2 you can see bullet impacts and make corrections quickly. You can shoot all day without ill effects. This all adds to accuracy. As far as bullet performance goes there is no loss if installed properly.

Bad news...They are loud, if shooting beside others make sure they are aware before you squeeze one off. Alot of competitions will not alow them because of this.

Shoulder protection? Muscle up...

Joking aside, holding the rifle firmly against the shoulder will prevent your shoulder from getting 'banged up.' Upon recoil the rifle will go with your body not bash into your body.

Apart from recoil pads and such there are shooting shirts with that patch for the shoulder.

The most cost effective is the PAST shoulder pad. I didn't mind the thump of the 30-06 or the .444 but for 50$ I figured its better then a bruise!!
Now I can shoot all day with no flinching towords the end of the day with both guns. Highly recommended!
