Hi All,

I looked for a dedicated mares leg thread, but wasn’t able to find one. Perhaps an oversight on my part..? Anyways I thought it would be great for us to have a dedicated thread to show off our Mares Legs (whatever brand) and all of their cool accessories.

- Full stocks
- holsters
- Henry’s
- Chiappa
- Rossi Ranch Hand

show them all off!

I have also posted a poll at the top of the thread. I thought it would be great to see what people are buying. To my knowledge we have 3 main options.

I will kick us off.

I just ordered a Henry Mares Leg in .44 Mag. Should arrive end of next week, assuming Canada Post doesn’t do anything foolish. I have wanted one for a long time and finally moved a few firearms out of the safe to free up some space for one. Looking forward to its arrival. Here are a few photos from the previous owner.

I have not decided if I want to go the rifle stock route yet, I will have to shoot it first. I love the idea of the compactness, especially for a bush/truck gun. A full stock however would make it more versatile for actually hunting as appose to defensive shooting.

I would love to get a holster and have just started to research options. It appears beaver mountain works makes some quality stuff, and they are a good BC company. Comes with a descent price tag, but I am a believer in “buy once cry once”.

Had a rossi in 44 mag with a full stock for a few years, the terrible balance of them pushed me to finally sell it. A 20" barrel is much nicer and just as compact, the short sight radius wasnt that bad but no that great either. They really arent that handy without a stock in my opinion, had mine like that for a while but once i installed a stock i never looked back.

I consider them useless with the short stock. Sorry guys just my opinion.

Henry 22. Replaced the stock with a full. They come ready for a scope so a cheap NC Star 4x20.

Rossi 44 magnum. Replaced the stock with a full stock. Removed the rear sight. Put a rail and red dot on it. Nice to carry during deer but was not given a chance to use it.

I did these two Rossi RH units up a few years back and they are real nice to carry and fun to shoot. Fitted em up with XS rear ghost ring sights & Marbles fronts.

Top one is .45 Colt & below is .357 mag.

Love my 12" barrel Henry 44 mag lever action.

Full length stock, replaced with a standard loop, installed a taller Marble front sight from Skinner and wrapped the brass.

Awesome photos so far.

ROC, that’s a beauty! I feel like I have seen your rifle in a dozen different configurations through the threads out there. Short stock, long stock, full wrap, brass wrap, scope, skinner sights, stock sights..... impressive. Your articles were one of the reasons I was swayed to the Henry.

There's a good chance you'll have to replace the front sight if it's a low one.

I ordered the .450" Marble front sight from Skinner and like the smaller brass bead. With the .450" front sight I have the rear at it's lowest setting and with my handloads I'm good out to 80 yards before I need to adjust the rear sight for elevation.

Some great posts. Yes, those videos above are excellent. Definitely didn’t help my bank account. BigDaddyHoffman has a pretty good one.

I found the holster a pain and extra weight. Just hang it by the sadle ring, quading, cuting trail, fishing, bushwacking. May get some scratchs, but I'm not into safe queens.
