Can someone tell me which Enfield this is. I have found a couple of references to the proof marks but different sites id it differently. I'm not into Milsurp and have very limited knowledge of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am selling it for an old lady and I want to get her a fair price. Pretty difficult without knowing what I am selling!

Hi,

Looks like you have a Lee Enfield No. 1, Mk III* manufactured by BSA in 1916. This would have been issued in WW1.

The Good.... This is Canadian marked with the "C" broad arrow acceptance mark.

The Bad..... "Bubba" got to this rifle and cut down the wood and drilled holes for the scope mount removing any real collector value. Probably not more than a hundred bucks now "Bubba" got to it.

STILL the best darned general-purpose rifle ever built.

It CAN be restored. Screw-holes can be plugged. It might not be 'collector grade' to have one like that, but it is still a chunk of history: the C-Broad Arrow alone certifies that much. Might be ab idea to check for battalion stamps; a lot of battalions marked their rifles during the Great War. If it is battalion marked, you can trace its history to a particular regiment, to specific battles it would have been used in.

It's too easy just to call it quits.
