My knowledge of shotguns is limited. I'm curious if side by side/double barreled shotguns are still made. If so, by who? Here's what I'm looking for. 12 or 16 gauge, that can take steel shot. If possible, I'd like interchangeable chokes, but that's not necessary. My biggest concern is taking steel shots. I've a few pumps that can, but I just love hinge break shotguns. Unfortunately, all my hinge/break's are older models, and I don't want to put them under the stress of steel shots.

ruger makes the gold label in 12 ga only... there's cz as well, you could also look at the spanish gun makers as well. the cz line is around 900 bucks, the gold label is around 2200.

There is a wide range of manufacturers to choose from - it may be easier to narrow down a search list if you first bring into scope your budget, preferred configuration etc. Please keep in view that steel shots for a 16ga may not be something you'd have available as a regular shelf item.

A less expensive option, although not the quality of CZ or Ruger is the remington spartan line of sxs's. They do come with screw in chokes, as well as Baikal. This is depending on how much shooting and hunting you will be doing. As entry level sxs's go they're not bad , for the money.

sorry, that was the price on one in the states I was going to bring up...

Since you may be planning on a purchase from the Stateside....IMHO, it may be to your advantage to look at other makes as well ex - Spanish :) or perhaps wait for a comparison i.e. former vs new late model GL arrivals this Summer (well, as per Ruger website).

There are a number of companies that make side by sides that are compatible with non-toxic shot, but far fewer side by sides are being made than over/unders, and side by sides are significantly more expensive than over/unders of the same quality.

Makers include Beretta, Merkel, Griffin & Howe (in conjuction with Arrieta), and Spanish gunmakers such as AyA and Arrieta. Holland & Holland, Purdy, Krieghoff, etc, also make side by sides, but those makes are very expensive.

If you are interested in the Griffin & Howe, have a look at their web site. They are English style guns with straight stocks and weigh just over 6 pounds. If still interested, send me a pm. I just bought one in 20ga, in fact fired it at a sporting clays facility in New Jersey for the first time yesterday. I am extremely happy with Griffin & Howe as a dealer and with the shotgun.
