Has anyone here used this type of bullet to hunt deer or other big game? It is very accurate but Sierra does not recommend it for hunting. Thanks, Cheers Roscoe

Match ammo is generally not recommended for hunting. Most of the times, bullets designed for target shooting will probably fragment, or just simply have bad terminal ballistics, maintaining most of its energy through the animal. You want a bullet that will have a controlled mushroom expansion, maintaining most of its weight, transferring as much energy as possible into the animal.

Nosler Partition bullets are among some of the top bullets for hunting. Others like the Speer Deep curl and Grand Slam will also be good hunting bullets. I'm in the process of working up loads for Nosler partition 180 grain spitzer bullets.

I've seen pictures of a white tail shot with a Hornady A-MAX which is a similar unbonded target designed bullet. The bullet fragmented completely causing quite a bit of meat loss and a horrible wound. I don't know how quick death was for the deer.
They will still kill game so if "dead is dead" is your hunting philosophy regardless of meat loss or animal suffering then they will work if you don't have anything else. Personally I'd use a controlled expansion bonded bullet of some kind.

No that is not my hunting philosophy, I just wanted more information and am already looking at getting some Nosler accubonds in 165 grain. I only found out about 2 days ago that Sierra does not recommend them for hunting. Cheers Roscoe

I regularly use 69 bthp bullets on coyotes, etc., and they have proven to be excellent for that purpose. I would not use such a style of bullet for edible big game, that's for sure.

Check out the Hornady SST projectiles. Designed for deer-sized game, should have good accuracy.

I'm loading the 165g version in .308 Win.

LeBaron and Higginson carry them, ask your favourite Hornady vendor...
