Wondering if anyone has tried the (Sierra 220 Grain Round Nose Prohunter) and what kind of results they had out in the field. I'm loading them for a 300 win mag with 67.5grains h4831sc and magnum primers. most of the shots in the area i hunt are within 300 yards and they will be used for Black Bears, Elk and Moose.

the firearm is a Browning BLR. Any one with any experience with these?

Why not just load a 180 or 200 Partition?

well for one, although vanilla ice cream is a great flavour why limit yourself to on flavour when there may others you might like more?

secondly, all the bears i've shot have been pretty close. like under 50 yrds. moose have been 120yrds or less (last year we had one at 50yds and we couldn't even see it yet) and haven't had a chance at an elk yet but i don't see myself taking longer shots at them either. i hunt in some pretty dense woods. so i'm not really getting the benefits of a pointed bullet at those ranges.

i read the RN bullets deliver more energy within 300 yds and are faster expanding than a pointed bullet. i'm wondering if anyone has tried them to see what i should expect.

so i'm guessing you haven't tried them?

The 220 RN shot very well in my A Bolt .300 WM. Was using H4350 max load.
Shot two Nfld bull moose, one at about 40m in the face, and the other at about 150m behind the shoulder.
You need not worry about bullet preformance with decent shot placement.

I have zero experience with any Sierra's hunting bullets, in your cenario i would probably choose the 200gr partitions.
Please post results i would be interested on how those bullets perform.

a lot of the old gunwriters like elmer keith swore by using round nose bullets for hunting. i know the bullets are better now (supposedly) i'm considering trying some because i had a rifle rebarreled and
its not feeding that great

I may run 220gr Woodleigh round nose this fall in my 308 Norma Mag for elk. Shots aren't far, it would work great.
