I regret selling my 9mm P220 years ago and was wondering if the .45 220's felt the same in your hand? The P226 seems too big for me. Anyone have both to do a side by side comparison?
My double stack 226 with E2 grips is just a hair thicker than the single stack 220 in 45. Don't know if there is much difference in the 220 in 9mm as I've never held one.
Took a pic of the grip thickness of my German P220/45, P226/9 (E2 grips), P239/9. 226 is about 2mm thicker at the bottom and middle of the grip than the 220, about 3-4mm thicker at the top near the beavertail. (220's grip is a little longer and flatter, while 226 is a tad shorter but thicker). If the OP has small hands, the 239 is the Sig for him as it is smallest of the 3 (Single stack 8rd mag).
Not the best angle, but there is no way there is 1/2 an inch (12.5mm) as the other guy posted. 3 or 4mm at most with the thinner E2 grips. With both grips measurements (thickness and length) taken into account, I can reach about 2mm farther with my trigger finger on the 220. The base grips on the 226 are a little thicker than the E2 that I have.
Look into a 239 or get skinny grips for your 220...
I am sure the Sig 220 frame is identical, whether it's 9mm or 45. I guess I am lucky having large hands, as everything fits me, unless it's a really tiny grip then it bothers me.

Yes, agreed
I have 2 x 220, one in .45 and one in .22, they are the same frame, I could swap frames without noticing. I would expect the same from a 9mm one. BTW, my wife definitely prefer the 220 than my 226!
