Hey folks,

Hoping someone can help me out here. I bought a Sig 226 in 22LR, SA only. I just took it home, haven't shot it yet (waiting on ATT + registration) but the slide doesn't lock back on an empty mag. The slide does lock back if I use the thumb catch, just not on its own when pulling the slide back on an empty mag.

At the same time I bought the 226 in 9mm (SHTF panic buys) and on the 9 it locks back just fine. Any ideas? I brought this up at the gun store and they just shrugged and said that's the way it's supposed to work.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The factory mags do not have a hold open for the 22lr

There is a guy who makes 3d printed magazines I have used them they work great and hold open, he also makes followers for the factory mags that hold open too

Thanks for the replies folks. Does that just mean that if I miscount my shots I end up dry firing my pistol? Seems it would be prone to damage the gun, no?

Not really a huge issue unless you dry fire excessively If your really worried you can load a snap cap first then 9 live rounds that way you don't have to count and you have a snap cap as the last round
