Sig 226 9mm good idea or bad?

First, I would like to thank you for checking out this thread. Secondly, I like to apoligize in advance; for I happen to be a bit of a hard head.

A few years ago I got this brilliant idea that I wanted a Sig 226, typical punk kid, I just thought they looked cool. Now that I'm a little older I went out and picked one up.

Some guys have talked me into giving this whole IPSC game a try.

Questions:

1) I'm curious what other people are thinking about using this pistol in IPSC shooting.

2) Any suggestiongs for gear? (Holsters, mag pouches, etc)

I have the 226 ST in 9mm, I love it, it's an excellent gun. For a holster consider the Blackhawk Sepa, a very well made, secure and fast holster. Comes with a belt mount and paddle, both which have 3-5 positions.
 
Thanks for all the input guys and gals if the case my be. I was a little curious since it seems like most people out there shooting IPSC are running some type of 1911 or a CZ. I didn't know if this was a cost issue or if those types handled better they a 'duty' pistol.

I happen to have larger hands, out of everything that I had the oppertunity to pick up and hold I must say the Sig felt like a perfect match. Mine 226 came with a set of Hogue Half Grips so that might have a little something to do with it.
 
If you have larger hands the Sig should be perfect for you. The CZ is a good gun, but the slide is a bit hard to get a gripe on compared to the Sig.
 
Sig 226 is a great gun but for IPSC PRoduction I would go with the SPO1. The Sig has a high bore axis which can make recoil control slightly more difficult. The top shooters in the world in Production shoot CZ and their clones for a reason. Too, the CZ is all steel and I am not sure an alloy gun will hold up as well if you really intend to get into IPSC in a big way.


Again the Sig is a great gun but I am not sure it is a great gun for IPSC Production. The 1911 tends to rule the other divisions in various iterations.

I had the chance to hold a CZ 85 Combat and just didn't seem to like it as much as the 226. I also only went with a 9mm, lets face it guys, it's going to be a long time before I'm even close to competative with my times, I just wanted something that goes bang and is cheaper to shoot. Mind you I do have a EEA Witness .45 sitting in the locker. So once I actually learn how to shoot properly and well under stress, I do have other options available if for some reason I ever start to out shoot my current gun.
 
Pros and cons of Sigs and CZs. The Sigs have larger slides and are easier to rack. CZs have very little slide above the frame and are harder to rack. In the States, CZs run about 1/2 of what Sigs do. Shoot them both and see which one works better for you. Regards, Richard:D
 
Ive got a 226 in 9mm & .40...I dont have a large hand, medium at best and dont really find grip size a problem. I do have a short trigger that Im going to install if I ever get the time.

If the 226 fits your hands and you can reach the trigger on double action, and the double to single action transition doesn't bother you then the 226 is a great gun for you!

I have a 226 in .40S&W(and a 357sig bbl), its a fine firearm. I would trust my life with its reliability and accuracy, if it came down to it. I bought mine used... I would like to get an all stainless one but this is working fine for me. The trade in's that several dealers offer are a great option.

Here I am doing some informal steel plates by myself at the outdoor range last summer. As you can see, I am in desperate need of formal training... but my sig doesn't mine :)
