Hi,

I've done a search on CGN and the internet and I'm hoping those with you with actual experience can answer this question.

I'm interested in the purchasing a Sig 226 classic 22LR and as well as the 9mm X Change Kit. I'm wondering though, when I convert to 9mm, if I wanted extra mags, do I buy regular p226 9mm mags? I know that the frame of the sig 226 classic should be the same as the sig 226 9mm, and so in my mind, it should work, but I'm more interested in reality than theory :)

So for those of you who have the 9mm X change kit, does the regular sig 226 9mm mags fit and will they feed (when in 9mm mode)?

Thanks,

Matt

I have the 226 classic in 22,,and both the 9mm and the 40cal x-change slides.they all work flawless. if you want to buy more magsjust buy a mag for a p226 in 9mm and it will fit perfectly.

Yes, of course. Remember, you are using the exact same frame and these individual caliber mags were made for the same pistol. If you are buying 9mm mags I would recommend Mec-Gar's over the factory ones made by Checkmate. 22 Classic 226 has the same frame as the centerfire 226 models. Have fun!

The factory Checkmate 40cal mags will cycle 13 or 14 rounds of 9mm legally, while the 40 Mec-Gar's are said to not work with 9mm...

I second the Mecgar mags. I bought three and left the original SIG magazine untouched in my safe.
BTW, I believe the combo you got is awesome in every way - quality, versatility and value.
Congrats!
I added rosewood grips to mine and it looks all spiffy now...

Serious question (a bit off the original topic): If an LEO or other found out/could prove/saw you loading 9mm rounds into a 40 Cal mag to achieve a capacity of greater than 10, would it actually be legal? Not that I would advertise, but how careful would one theoretically want to be about who one did this in front of?

100% legal. 10rd limit is for the caliber the mag was made for. If 13rds of 9mm fit in a 10rd 40cal mag, legal.

:Insert Mr Burns photo: Excellent.

My Glock 22 mags feed a G17 perfectly in dry fire drills (with 9mm ammo). Now to test at the range. Haven't bought my own G17 as they're on back order, but this may change which mags I order for it. More G22 mags perhaps...

Similar to being able to use 10rnd LAR mags in an AR, because the mag is designed for a firearm that can legally hold 10rnds. Saw something on the RCMP website about it, was trying to look it up, but appears my history was deleted. If I find it I'll throw it up here.

Since the 10rd LAR mag is a pistol mag (10rd limit) and can be used in a rifle... the mags restriction is for what it was made for. If it works in a rifle, so be it. Likewise with the caliber issue. A 10rd 40cal mag is pinned at 10rds of 40, but if 13 or 14 9mm rounds fit in there and cycle, legal.

This is off topic, but if the OP is looking for a 9mm mag, get the Mec-Gar in 9mm or the Checkmate 40cal mag which will allow a higher capacity.
