You live in Vancouver correct? It is not very far away from the border. I also live near the border (in Alberta), so I order something from a US company, have it shipped to a broker's warehouse in the states (I use a UPS one) and go down and pick it up. The warehouse charges me five bucks a package and I am happy to pay (Canada Customs charges you at least 5 bucks for a handling fee when you have it sent directly to Canada). When I get to the border I just declare everything in the packages and pay the GST (and duties if it is made outside North America.) If the customs officers want to have a look at your stuff, you will be there, unlike when they open your packages as they cross in the mail. This has saved me soo much money, time and well mostly money. With our dollar so strong right now, there is soo many deals in the states. (Just try not to break any US export laws...although it is very tempting

) It takes way less time because your packages don't have to go through Customs. The warehouses are not hard to find. If you don't want to drive down you can just send it to a friend in the states and have them send it up to you. All in all the whole trip takes me about 2-3 hours inculding waiting in line at customs. This whole thing might not work for you, but it works great for me!
