Recently, I have come into a quantity of 9mm magazines for the Sig 228.

I have a simple question that I so far could not find a definitive answer for. I'd like to buy a new 229 gun. Are magazines for the 228 and 229 the same? Or are the mags mentioned above only for that previous model?

Thank you!

Recently Sig has stopped production of a separate frame for the 9mm P229. The new frame has the same dimensions as the .40 and therefore the mag well is slightly larger. The mags provided with the new pistols are designated as gen 2 mags and are slightly wider. The good news is that the old 228/229 9mm mags will work in the new pistols but may exhibit a little side to side play. They will function fine though and I use older mags in my new production P229 with no ill effects or function problems.
If you get an older production P229 9mm the mags are completely interchangeable with the P228.

This is right. I had a specific production date / pistol serial number range where they did standardise the frame but I cannot find it anymore...
