Hey all,

I have a DAC 394 Kit that I have built up (SIG 228 clone) and I'm finding my 1911 style "thumb on the safety" grip is causing issues with the slide lock. I have tried altering my grip to keep my strong hand thumb lower down on my support hand thumb but it keeps wanting to creep back up and brush the edge of the latch. I have hogue grips on it at the moment and am quite fond of the feel but perhaps the profile is different than the stock grips or the latch sticks out too far...?

This is the latch at rest...

I'm thinking I could try bending it down tighter to the grip, bending it up away from my thumb or grinding it back/reshaping it to a smaller profile...

How does it compare to a stock SIG latch? Are there typical mods one does to the latch to combat this problem?

Thanks

I compared it to my 226R and it does stick out further. However, I had a similar problem where my thumb would engage the slide lock just a bit and the slide would lock to the rear with ammo in the mag still.
I adjusted my grip and all is well now. I think its a peculiarity of certain hand shapes in combination with a certain holding style that allows that thumb to press up on the slide lock. I simply concentrated for a while in pressing down with my thumb, and all is well.

It is a common issue for 1911 shooters using the P226. I say just adjust your grip. Rather than the thumb on the would-be safety, just rest it on your left thumb.
