Hello I'm new to the forums, I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding the new SIG 522 .22LR. Is it available in Canada, restricted or non-restricted, and what will the price be?

Thanks

Wow  how could that be the SIG 552 .223 Cal is Non-Restricted...Is this not a variant of that?

If that's true that's absolutely absurd, or maybe they should put a 3200 dollar price tag on it like it's bigger brother so no one can afford then.

Tell me it's not true.......

Nope. The SIG 550 is indeed by name prohibited.

Former Prohibited Weapons Order No. 13 (in effect since January 1, 1995)
The firearms of the designs commonly known as the SG-550 rifle and SG-551 carbine, and any variants or modified versions of them.

The Swiss Arms rifles currently available on the Canadian market are actually based on the SIG 540 series, just scaled down to .223/5.56 calibre. Since the SIG 540 series is not named as prohibited, variants of that series are legal, while variants of the 550 series are prohibited. Confused yet?

Now here's the real kick to the nuts. The 522 rifle uses a blowback system as opposed to the piston system of the 540 and 550 series of rifles. Therefore, it CANNOT be a variant of the 550 series (or even 540 series), since the internal parts are not interchangeable. The "experts" at the RCMP firearms lab are claiming that it is a variant, despite the facts, and will not back down on their ruling. This is the same BS they pulled with the GSG5 rifles, which despite looking like an MP-5, are completely different internally.

That is truly insane, 3200$ for the .223 vr and only rich people can afford it, yet it's 20 times less dangerous .22 sister is outlawed....it's like the RCMP is being influenced by some rich club of powerful secret gangsters. cou:

Indeed... they are called liberals!

They should be called fascist Nazis!

I wonder if there is any way SIG could revamp this rifle so that way it would have to be considered a 540 variant?

I'm sure they would sell thousands here in Canada if they could some how pull that off.

Within any nation only the police and army need guns, to protect its citizens from dictatorships, democides and genocides.

So... why can't we just have a Swiss Arms .22??

No .22 should be outlawed! A 522 is no more dangerous than a 10/22! Doesn't matter which gun you have, if it's loaded and out in public , you gonna scare people and possibly get shot by the police. Baning a gun for it's looks it's retarded.

I was just looking at my 10/22 with it's 25 round clip and thought "WTF how is this any less dangerous then a 522" and on top of that you can mod a ruder 10/22 to look like an AR!.....WTF are they smoking at the RCMP headquarters.

That's what I want to know , they would sell a boat load if they could some how pull that off. I would pay a grand in a hart beat for one as long as it wasn't "cheesed up" compared to the first vr.

I know this is a really old thread, but god damn this is bullsht. Isn't there an appeal process to get some of these rifles re-classified? this is the first thing we should be nailing our government about - firearms re-classification - to the peoples benefit. such horsecrap.
