Thanks for reminding us how these got banned.
The libs have some serious hate against the Swiss from when the Swiss ambassador asked the Canadian government why a Swiss Canadian's PE-90 was held for "temporary" inspection for over 2 years back in the 1990's. Surete and RCMP each said the other had it.

I would have liked to have one for service rifle competition. They were always just out of my price range. I remember Dave Oakey nearly out competing space ar15s at nscc years ago with a stock SA.
It'd be nice if the LPC stopped putting competition firearms onto the prohib list, and better yet, reversed their ultra partisan behavior and cleared the entire list.

Originally the 550 was prohibited because it was on the ATF list of prohibited rifles that couldn't be imported into America.
The 550 didn't even start to be exported to America at that time and they were coming into Canada.
So, the RCMP used the ATF list as a template for the Justice Department prohibited list
The ATF list was just to stop the importation of foreign made guns, to keep the manufacturer's happy
Then the importers in Canada started fighting over 550's and got them banned, then the 550 Swiss Rifle colour series got caught up in additional issues
None of which served the Swiss rifle owner's who just wanted a nice non restricted n range rifle to replace the target model AR15 Rifle which is restricted

Yeh, wish I had my 551 carbine again. Nearly got the Hensoldt 6x42 BL scope in green that was developed specifically for it as well with the original clunky QD mount flip mount. Sigh.
