I can see that they took off the bayonet lug and the grenade lump on the barrel. Are these the same as ours aside from that?

They are similar but different. They are made in the USA and the quality of the materials is inferior to what is in the SWISS arms which is reflected greatly in the Price. Sig USA is trying to capture market capital that the 550 series has created and consequently created these guns to sell to those who want but cannot afford the actual 550. (there are a few in the U.S. and U.S. laws prevents the import of any more) The Swiss Arms coming to Canada are REAL SWISS made with much better quality steel in the barrel, springs and other components. The price reflects this.

There are some (250) 551's in the U.S. that were recently (past 5 years) cannibalized with US parts and look much like a real 551 but have the required minimum 10 us parts in them and are very good rifles, very Swiss. They changed out things like the follower in the mag, some trigger parts and a few other minor parts....these particular guns ARE much like the Swiss Arms we get in Canada and were all sold through West Coast Armory...FWIW.

Keep in Mind that the Canadian Rifles are made in Switzerland and use technology that is made on the precursor to the 550, and parts from the actual 550 do not all interchange with the Canadian made rifles, which incidentally are among a select few of firearms that were engineered labeled and created specifically for the Canadian Market....Thank You Swiss Arms!!!!!

Yeah, if we didn't have mag limits, this is one case where I'd rather have the gun available in the Canadian market vs the botch job down south.

I wish I could buy a Swiss Arms. :( :( :(

You can, the first 3000 that were sold in the US had Swiss bcg's Swiss piston rods Swiss springs and Swiss trigger parts and Swiss barrels, they were on par with the Swiss in quality. Can't give you the exact serial number change over as there was a time when the Swiss parts were phased out and some had a few good parts others less.

I seen the few real pre clinton ban swiss guns down there sell for 5 to $10,000 when they do come up on gunbroker
