Sorry if this question has been asked and answered a zillion times already (could find nothing on the search feature). But, when is the Sig 556 supposed to be available in Canada?

When did this come about? I missed the thread where it was comfirmed as a Sig 55X variant. It was all speculation.

IIRC, Redleg or TSEJR posted a picture of the FRT.

Concidering the american division was advertizing it as a 550 derivative, I just couldn't see the CFC taking any other approach but to believe the factory.

I figured as much. I guess we'll just have to settle with our authentic Swiss Arms rifles. Terrible :p
I won't deny a cheaper alternative would have been nice but we've still got the XCR coming.

This makes absolutley no sense as usual. The 556 is about as far away from a 550 series variant as you can get. The swiss arms rifles on the other hand...

Well I have stated this at least 100 times already. The very first thing the forensic people look at is advertising copy. If the manufacturer states a firearm is a varient of a prohibited one, they record it as such. There is no further investigation required. Physical similarity only becomes important if there is an inspection of the firearm required. Usually forensics is happy to discuss the issue with the manufacturer to avoid inspections.

Does this mean that a manufacturer could make a semi only (civilian receiver) look alike and as long as they don't post big pictures calling it, for example " a Semi-Auto Version of the FAL" it has a better chance?

It certainly makes their case easier.
