So I have been thinking about getting a pistol caliber carbine that will allow me to use my 10 round sig 226 mags. (which I use in my norinco NP-22 and NP-34)

The first firearm that comes to mind is the kel tec sub 2000 which uses sig mags. I think its a cool firearm (have never handled/shot one), but at $600 it is pricey and doesnt come with any rails for mounting an optic (add another $100-200 to add rails):

Now I am also considering a carbine conversion kit ever since I got the NP-34 because I can then have one as a pistol and one in the conversion kit.

There are several available now for the sig 226 including the KPOS:

HERA (New - No Pics Available, but here is a p2022):

price wise I think the conversions are around $400-500, so approaching the $600 price of the kel tec (no rails) which will be a whole new firearm, and let me still shoot the 2 pistols if I wish. If the kel tec cost $300 like in the states, it would be a no brainer, but it is double the price here....

Also: the main reason I am thinking sig is because I like the platform and already have a ton of mags for them (around 15)

What are your thoughts???

well the kpos stock after tax and shipping from wolverine is over the $500 mark. Realy a nice stock kit. Everything is tight and well made. Comes with so nice goodies aswell. Cant really comment on the Roni but there is some threads on those already.

For around the price of all these kits you could get the kel tec, which may be better considering it is a whole other gun but can still take the same mags as your pistol.

But it is your money and choice.

I agree with you luke, some how it looks weird, but with that Sig Sauer unit you can use it for glocks, m&p, etc. I would take a carbine conversion though. Just don't like the looks of the sub2000.

I was going to suggest a JR Carbine over all of these. But sadly they don't produce it in SIG or anything else other than Glock and 1911 single stack options.

Too bad. I've gotten to shoot a buddy's JR and it's a darn nice carbine for the money. Not as "clean" to shoot as something like the Beretta Storm but a lot less money. And it's got a nice look to it that trounces the Keltec cheezy look.

As for the pistol conversions I just can't see the appeal. But that's me. I'd just rather have a different purpose built setup than something that relies on clamping onto a handgun's light rail or whatever.

i own a sub 2000 and i love the gun, very accurate even with the sites it has

leave in mind that the sub 2000 is a non restricted gun, so if you ever want to use it outside of the range to kill old tin cans you can, where as with those others kits you can not

Well I ended up with the sub 2000, since epps had them for $562. I wanted to see one in person before committing to buying since a lot of people said they look and feel like toys. It looked better than I imagined and the plastic wasnt as crappy as people made it out to be. Ill do a review later on it.

They also had the hera kit which looked really cool, but the gun was pretty loose in it, maybe because it wasnt tightened down fully? the price tag of $940 was also pretty high, but it was tricked out with magpul gear including AFG, flip up BUIS, side fording stock, etc

I still think the KPOS kit looks pretty cool, so I might pick it up in the future
