Please don't laugh too hard, but what's the difference between the P220, P226 etc. I just purchased a P220 .45 (new from the store) without doing my homework so I'm curious if I made a good buy in comparison to the other P models on the market. Thanks.

Also, I don't think the 226 comes in .45, does it? It does however come in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG.

The 220 is a single stack in .45 and 9mm. They used to make them in .38 Super as well I think.

220 really only comes in 45 nowadays, yes its an excellent 45, one of the few that can take any type of ammo you want to feed it without any hiccups. They have always been very reliable guns and if its the new version with the external extractor all the better as you wont ever have to deal with the annoying rollpins. Its an excellent gun you'll be very happy.

If ever someone was to buy a gun without doing any homework, you picked the best one to buy. The P220 is arguably one of the very best .45s on the market. Good choice!

My 20 year old Sig 220 is still as good as the day it was issued to me in `85. I carried it as a duty gun for five years and bought it when I retired. I had Robar put NP3 on it and I got a set of wood grips.

After retiring, I worked for the courts for four years and it was my daily carry gun. I also worked as a rangemaster at a local gun club and shot it about five days a week. I have fired more than 75,000 rounds through it.

I've only had to replace recoil, trigger return, and decocker springs. Here's a photo:

Enjoy your new toy,

JCM298,

I've seen you post that P220 on this forum a few times. I have to say, 'tis a classy looking pistol in the two tone with wood grips....and given that you've carried it for that many years thus far, it holds sentimental value....

I reckon the grandkids will love it one day....

Winz,

Thanks. It's a good one but my favorite is still the Python that I carried for 20 years. When the department transtitioned from revolvers to autos in the early `80's, the "old farts",like me, could pass it up on the first time the auto was offered. I did but in `85, I was forced, kicking and screaming, to enter the 20th Century.

I had already switched, sort of, as my personal duty gun was a Smith 469. It worked better than the Python in civilian clothes. Of course, when things looked like they were going to get a little "western", the 9MM Smith was put away and the .357 Python was brought back out.

The thing that surprised me was that I shot a higher score with the Sig than with the Python. I was stunned when I realized that the piece of German pot metal could shoot a tighter group than my fine old Python. It must be the larger size bullets launched by the Sig. :)

There's a photo of the Python in post#4 here:
