Hello,
I remembered reading this particular model about 2-3 yrs ago when it was first introduced to the market (American Handgunner mag). a very impressive gun, accuracy, reliability and finish. but after that never heard a thing or issues. Matt Mclearn used to supervised in the this project of Sig, any feedback of what happen? does it still comes with CASPIANS slide and frame? and I beleive it comes with a Stormlake bbl. Im considering of getting one as part of my 1911 collections, any feedback, comments? thanks

I bought my GSR just about 2 years ago and love it, I actually traded in my Springfield 1911 for it. From the box it shot to point of aim, it has never had any type of stoppage and it now has upwards of 9000+ rounds through it. I'm not sure who makes the frame, slide or barrel but the fit and finish is excellent.

I highly recommend it with no reservations.

No, they don't have Caspian slides and Storm Lake barrels anymore - only the first few were assembled from aftermarket parts, while Sig was ramping up its own production. The GSR looks like a very good gun on paper, but there were serious quality/reliability issues with some early guns. I don't know if the issues have been addressed on later models.

I have one of the newer Revolution models. I had several of the problems the GSR is known for. It took 2 quick trips back to the gun smith. The problems were:

1. 50% FTF rate until the sharp edges were removed from the extractor and feed ramp.
2. Rear sight drifted loose.
3. Cracked lips on one Novak magazine.
4. Broken hook on extractor.

No real big deal to fix except it took SIG USA 7 months to send me their redesigned and beefier extractor even though my gun was under warranty. The Canadian rep for SIG said that the Canadian market is too small to be a priority for them and given the poor customer service I would hesitate to get another SIG.

My GSR now runs 100% and I am keeping it. Any problems can be resolved and it is a tight gun with premium parts that it extremely accurate. If you buy one be prepared to be patient if issues appear.

The GSR will not fit in hard/injection molded holsters designed for the 1911 because of the slightly wider slide. Bladetech makes one but it is expensive. 5.11 Tactical's molded 1911 holsters fit and they are around $35. Just my 2 cents worth.....

My local gun store said that Glock and STI have the best service and parts availability. Maybe a 1911 form STI would fit your needs.

I can vouch for the ease getting parts and service for STI pistols. Freedom Ventures is the business you would dealing with. I've ordered numerous parts, and had one warranty issue, and there's never been any hassle at all. A hundred other people on the CGN boards could likely say the same thing.

as mentioned earlier, the GSR could be part of my 1911 collection, I already have a STI/ SVI and Baer. The GSR interest me because of the unique profile of the slide. I agree with regards to STI ( FREEDOM v) SERVICE.

Matt left Sigarms shortly after the development phase. He told me that they had a disagreement on the quality of future parts suppliers.
If you've seen McLearn's guns, you know the man believes in perfection.

His advice to me a year ago was get a first gen GSR - they're masterpieces. After that, YMMV.

PS - Thanks for the kind words, guys.
