Hey there,

I was wondering if it is still possible to pop the bottom plate under SIG hi-cap pinned/whelded mags to clean them/ change spring / change follower just like factory 10 rounders or the "modifications" done to them limit that?

thanks,

I have a couple in 9mm and .40 that came with the pistols I bought from Questar. They weld a small flat plate to the inside of the mag to limit them to 10 rounds. They disassemble the same as "regular" mags.
There is no advantage to having these mags and they are a bit ugly as they have to scrape off the finish on the outside to weld the mag. I would rather they had just switched them out for Sig factory 10 rounders but they work fine.

I have trouble visualising it; so that flat plate just blocks the follower so it cannot go lower and allow more than 10 rounds but doesn't prevent us to remove the mag spring right?

Thanks,

That's right the "plate" is on the rear or flat part of the mag. It comes apart like it normally does except that you have to manouver the follower around the plate to get it out. I only have the ones that Questar supplied so I'm not sure about fullsize mags that are altered in another way, say by pinning them.

Depends on what you've got, had mine done by a gunsmith, similar method to Questar from the sounds of it. Put plates in on either side, pinned and welded the plates in place. Follower won't come out but I can clean the inside of the mag. R Nicholls do their mags by gluing a pin to the bottom of the follower, which I have to say I don't think is legal, all you have to do is remove the glue to restore them to their original capacity.

sounds perfectly legal to me.

you can cut or grind out any welded mods if you really wanted to.

the glue is a permanent mod just like welding.
