About the only type of handgun Ive never owned or even handled for that matter is the Sig, just wondering if Iam missing anything, cause Iam toying with the idea of getting a 226.

I think most people would agree that they're one of the top three duty pistols in production today. I've got three of'em and I love'em all.

Like any other pistol though, they're not for everybody. I'd definitely recommend you get a feel for'em before buying.

I tried several pistols (M&P, Glock, CZ) before I laid my hands on a Sig...

Needless to say I went out and got one immediately. It's a terrific pistol and is very accurate. Now I just need to practice more so I can be as accurate as the pistol! :D

The 226 is accurate, well made, balanced, reliable, and simple. It's not pretty but it doesn't have to be - it's a duty firearm.

There's no safety - it simply will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. Less parts, less stuff to have in the wrong position at the wrong time.

I can drop plates all day long from 25 meters with mine and I'm not a great shot. After putting a hundred rounds downrange a flip of a lever lets the slide comes off with the barrel and spring/guide for 10 minutes of cleaning with no tiny parts to lose and no fumbling to reassemble. I have never had a FTF or FTE.

There's good reason why so many people like this pistol. Try one for yourself.

I own a West-German made P226 (1994 date code). This thing is awesome. I just got into the sport for a few months and I shoot 6" groups at 25 meters. I needed a fair amount of different kinds of ammo to find the RIGHT one. Remington UMC 124Gr, it doesn't like Winchester stuff at ALL (115 and 124gr included), it shoots it completely to the left, and at 7 meters! I put Rem UMC 124Gr in it and BANG, 2" group in the center at 15 meters. :D

The only complaint I have regarding this pistol it how dirty it gets. I get some dirty brass and a pretty dirty frame and slide after shooting it. I don't own any other handgun so I don't know if it's normal, from the brass I see at the range on the floor, it's pretty much the only one I have seen throwing out dirty brass like that. And probably the only one that gets the interior SO dirty. Do I have to change the barrel? Is the chamber too large? WTF?

Easy to shoot, hell yeah :)

Mine is november 2008 built. I was actually quite surprised as how clean mine was after my first range session with it. I put 2 boxes of WOLF 124g thru it. To clean it, I passed like 2 hoppes #9 patches and it was clean. Only used the nylon brush. I wiped the interior with Breakfree CLP (Also did before). My patch came clean...

It might not be a lot of ammunition, but it was clean :D

I'm no sig guru, you should ask about it on sigforum, they might guide you on possible solutions. I don't know what's your round count, but I would believe the barrel is one of the most durable part, beside the frame...

To the OP - if the 226 works for your hands, there's nothing any other pistol will do better (except maybe a 45 calibre pistol, they make bigger holes :D) if the 226 is too big, then definitely try the 229 as it's slightly smaller in the grip.Only shooting Sigs is like "only driving Mercedes" no problem at all.
