I have a 226 Elite SAO and its thumb safety is different than that of the SAO X5.

I had problems with the wire spring that creates the detent for the safety popping out of the channel causing the safety to disengage by itself.

Not sure if the Legion has the same safety design as my Elite or if it is the X5 SAO safety.

There was a lady on the Sig Forums that was raising a fuss with Sig about this issue a couple of years ago. Not sure what the outcome was.

I ended up modifying my grip panel so that it would keep the wire spring from popping out of the channel.

I have a SIG 226 Legion SAO as well. I haven't experienced a total mechanical failure like yours, but what I have noticed is difficulty disengaging the safety under stress if you should happen to take up slack on the trigger as you disengage the safety (eg. As you align sights on a target). If I hold tension on the trigger while disengaging the safety lever on my pistol, the mechanism will bind up and the pistol will not fire. My only recourse when this happens is to release the trigger entirely, then manipulate the safety lever from "Safe" to "Fire" before proceeding with the shot. If not prepared for this eventualiy it could cost you precious seconds fumbling around while the gremlin(s) gets a shot or two off at you. It is impossible to simultaneously press the trigger while disengaging the safety. Has anyone else noticed this aspect on their Sig SAO??

Yours seems more like a user/training issue.

Well Cableguy, I don't think that a good thing. Looks like yours is looser than the one in the youtube vid. Might want to contact MD Charlton and see what they recommend.

Safety tip. If the gun doesn't go bang when you pull the trigger, get your finger off the boom stick and address the reason why it did not fire before getting back on the trigger. Trying to ride the trigger while trying to drop the safety is just asking for trouble either with bad technique or safety. If your safety won't drop when the trigger is depressed, I'd say that's a good feature. If you keep forgetting to drop the safety at the start of a stage, I'd say you need more honeymoon time with that gun until it's second nature.

The video has the person racking the pistol with the safety engaged, is that a SIG feature? I do not have a SIG, but my HK USP, walther (P99, P38 and PP), Colt 1911, Berettas (neos, PX and 92) CZ 75B etc do not allow me to rack the slide with the safety engaged.

It's a Sig feature.

You should be able to rack a p99, as there is no external safety, and you should be able to rack a Beretta 92 as well with the safety on

Think your usp is broken too.

Agree, my mistake in mentioning that pistol. I'll have to try the Beretta 92 again, I haven't shot it in a couple years now. Thanks for reminding me.

I don't think it's a huge deal...who racks the slide (loading a round) engages the safety then racks the slide again?

Realistically you would rack, safety then holster the firearm.

I own the DA/SA 226 Legion, the decocker is amazing, no safety needed. That's what your hand positioning is for.
