Finally, here's the real deal!
I was able to get ahold of one early this year from GB at a decent price before they dried up and prices out there shoot sky high now...
It's in great condition with the usual scratches/wear when it was issued. On the front sight plate, there is minimal holster wear as can be seen.
There is a rack number painted on the backstrap that has somewhat faded.

The differences on markings of this one from the M17 Commemorative is the serial number prefix "TF"; and the assembly numbers 130670XX marked on the barrel and FCG (Fire Control Group).
I already had requested an FOIA letter last May and it usually takes 4-6 months to get a reply to know which unit this has been issued to.
Patiently waiting for it...

I had almost 300 rds through it.
Very accurate and feels good in the hand. I enjoy shooting this even if Sigs are known to have a much higher bore line.
Not noticeable on this one as compared to a p226, or maybe just that's me.

There is surplus of these already?

Yes. The initial issued M17s were just like trials. The new ones they have now are with black small controls similar to the commercial P320-M17.
Instead of Sig replacing all already issued pistols with black controls, the army shipped it back to them.
Then Sig sold it to civvies while they ship the new ones to the army.

I'm looking at these right now and having one imported. Pricey for sure. Wanna sell yours? Haha

Thanks for your interest on this one though. Not really for sale.
I had it imported at this same time last year when a lot of them are still popping up @ gunbroker and I had a decent winning bid, although it was very difficult for me to swallow the declining C$ conversion rate during that time.
But I'm very happy with this purchase!

Yeah didn't hurt to ask before spending $3,000 as they are going for around $2100 to $2400 American on gunbroker then import fees. But dang I'm torn between getting the commemorative which is much cheaper when I would way rather have the real deal but just pricey.

btw, here's the FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) history of this M-17.
It was quite a bit of a wait and it took 11 months to get this info back as they were all swamped with M17 surplus from civvies who wanted to get this documentation.

This pistol never went out of the states although there were a few that were deployed overseas, I bet those ones that are highly desirable.
Some owners even managed to get as well the original M-17 "issued box" and not usual Sig's reprint after receiving it back from the Army.

I guess the nearest one you can have without spending too much at this time is its commemorative version.
Sig mentioned before that there would be a second run of the M17 surplus but it didn't happen anymore.
When the M18 Commemoratives hit the market few months ago, people were speculating if it would also have a surplus but it's as clear as mud as it's still the same pistol as the M17 which were already tested.

That letter is so cool and I will do the same. Thanks for sharing that. I have lined up the importer now and just waiting to see a good deal on gun broker. I may have to pay the premium to get authentic. I'd rather have authentic or make a collection of each of the variations but something about having a pistol that was issued is so cool. Can go with my WW2 M1911A1s that I got.

Kyle, good luck in your M17 surplus search!
Once you secured it, you can verify with the owner if an FOIA has been submitted for it or at Decommissioned M17 FB group.

Lucky you have a USGI M1911A1 as I only have the Colt repros of it, and this is my only USGI pistol. =)
