So, The SIG Manurhin Rifle...

They were made in France as a Licensed production of the Swiss SIG 540.

(Whereas the Famae SG 540 is a licensed production from Chili)

Due to "military caliber" restrictions in France for the civilian market, the Manurhin was sold in .243 Winchester and .222 Remington.

Very few have made it here to Canada, and I'm wondering if anyone has seen one, has experience with them, and what their value is.

Thanks.

Here's a few pictures.

All I know is that when I saw the batch come in for sale in Canada they weren't cheap.

I thought about getting one but the oddball calibers put me off.

They made purpose built semi automatic 7.62x51 for the UK market
I have two of them
Then the UK Govt stopped allowing them to be sold

we had for a short time the CSA from the 540 with sights limited to 300 m (french hunting rules) and no bayonet holder in 243 win .. of course law was changing and i was too young to keep it. you needed to be at least 18 to have a cat b what they changed the civilian rifle from just an hunting rifle where 16 under guardian was enough. can t remember that much but it worked great on fox at the farm. another version never seen but heard was in 300 savage.

the 222 used by my dad but never to be seen after the law changed was called FSA of course the FSA was a copy of the 542 with the same limitations as the CSA.

of course great rifle but rules changes and put them in restricted thus people more interested in military caliber not those civilian ones.

when i was in the army 21st RIMA we had a display of some that were used in Chad, CAR and Lebanon: i think used at the end of the 70s up to the arrival of the FAMAS.

some of the units of the 21st RIMA and other special forces got the SIG 550 but again during my time we had FAMAS, FRF1, FRF2. special forces got always different equipments too.

i do think Manurhin continued to build them in civilian and military markets for a while.

I think Epps had a prohib 7.62mm in the last year for sale.

The Manurhin quick release sight mount are incredible.
The one for the 542 only fits the 542.
The sight mount for the 540 also fits the Swiss Arms.

Up to about three years ago, the Germans were selling those scopes as surplus for $350-550USD , now they go for double that or more. The mounts and the sights are the older STANAG mounting.

Besides the previously mentioned SIG Manurhin in .243 and .308, has anyone actually seen any others in Canada?

What about the Restricted .222 caliber? (FRT# 120819)

What was the FRT for the 243 version? No Panic but I don't see that one in the FRT today and I thought there used to be a separate entry - maybe I misremember and it's not under Manurhin?

Its under the SIG Manurhin 540 .222 rem entry I guess.

"other calibres noted but not verified include: 223 REM, 7.62X39 RUSSIAN and 243 WIN."

I imported mine from the UK No one even knew about them
There was three of us importing Gevarm rifles from the factory in France
None of them imported much of anything else

Anyone remember who sold them (SIG Manurhin Rifles) and what year that was?
I'm still looking for answers. Anything helps.
