SIG Mosquito Problems....

So I just picked up a new SIG Mosquito .22 today, and took it to the range after stripping it and completely cleaning it. Brought out some Federal (High Velocity) ammo, and some Remington (Viper, Hyper Velocity). I was looking forwards to breaking in the gun, and run a few hundred rounds through it, but I was having so many malfunctions that I ended up almost throwing the SIG down range in an angry fit of rage.
Basically it malfunctions almost after every shot. It either fails to extract (75% of time), fails to chamber (15% of the time), stovepipes (15% of the time). I had the heavier spring installed since I was using the faster ammo.

So I took it home to clean (still in disbelief) and inspect. Then disvovered aother issue: the hammer impacts on the firing pin too high it seems, and also hits the slide above the firing pin where it has already gauged the metal.

I was just going to take a picture of the firing pin, but of course the battery on the camera is dead.

I know that most .22 autos are picky about ammo, but this is just ridiculous. I know that SIG had a feeding problem with the Mosquitos when they first came out, but that was apparently taken care of... So WTF?

My serial # is with A042###

Thanks for any input fellas... Ill try to post a pic later after I put some juice into the battery.

Relax brother, we all knew that this gun #### up a lot of people. have you try different spring or heavier ammo. As far as I know 40gr high velocity should work in most of the picky guns. I don't really think they have fixed any things because problem show up now and then.
Good luck

You can see that the hammer strikes the firing pin only on the right side, not straight on. And above the firing pin you can see the damage to the slide (cast material unfortunately).. I don't know what is striking the slide there and deforming it... must be the firing pin though! So do I have to send this back to the factory, or bring it back to the dealer? Or just remove the dent in the slide, and mabe file of some material? I really don't fell I should have to do that with a brand-new firearm...
as always, thanks for comments!!

Couple of things:

When you reassembled it from your cleaning, did you put the recoil spring back in the slide in the correct direction. The pistol will only function properly if its in correctly. Its cone shaped and it should point ?. Sorry. I don't remember which way it was suppose to point but there are threads on the sig forum to help you out. Also, it will only run on HOT ammo like Yellowjackets, Mini Mags and Stingers. Lastly, there were two recoil springs that came with it. Use the lightest one regardless of how hot your ammo is.

It will break in after 400 or 500 rounds and mine shot really well with virtually no problems after it was broken in.

I just saw the damage. Go back to the retailer. I had to send mine back to the Canadian distributor, FN Sports in Montreal, because the crappy retailer (P&D Enterprises) wouldn't do squat to help me out. Get it replaced or your going to wait six months min. to get it back.

BTW, NEVER EVER dry fire this gun as the firing pin will break almost immediately.

My son's Sig works great. There are maybe 2 misfires in a brick of 525. We've been shooting Federal Value Packs. High velocity, 36grain, copper plated, hollow point. It's the same serial # A042###. One thing I did find out about on the 'net is to use the weaker (White) spring regardless of the ammo. I was really apprehensive about the Mosquito at first because of the negative comments about it, but decided that the good comments regarding the newer ones outweighed the bad. I'm glad I got it. If the white spring doesn't work for you have a look at rimfirecentral.com. There are tons of guys with Sigs there and they have all kinds of ways of making Sigs fire nicely.

Hmmm. I tried the HOT ammo with the light spring in mine. Scared the S**t outa me. I thought for sure I was gonna break somthing.
Switched to the heavy spring and use CCI mini-mag. Works great. Feels nice.

I did start having problems after about 800 rounds without cleaning. The slide lock spring was getting gummed up and it would lock the slide back. Couple times a mag. That was with the factory lube job, the spring was litterally coated with grease.

But ya, when I got it new and went to the range with 12 or so different kinds of ammo to try I did have a good night of practicing my clearing action drills. :D

Oh, and you really have to watch the cheaper bulk box ammo. The stuff where the bullet can wiggle in the case. They jam every other round.

Swissrallyman: Anything made in switzerland is going to be a problem....ditch it, also if you have any of those Hammerlys, ship to me for disposal...doesn't matter what ammo you use...if it's Swiss, it sucks!!
