I have recently aquired a sig mosquito and then found out about its reputation and was afraid as to how it would shoot. I took it out for the first time on thursday and it just wouldn't fire, it would like fire one shot then miss fire about three times and keep repeating this. I read more on some forums and someone had recommended cci mini mag ammo for it. So i bought a box of it. On friday night i took the gun apart and very very thoroughly cleaned the gun and applied a lot of the lubricant that came with the gun to all main areas. On Saturday I took the gun out shooting again and used both the cci ammo and some remington target ammo i had tried on thursday. I loaded it up. The thing magically started shooting perfectly after about 400 rounds I only had only one jam and about 20 miss fires. This was quite an improvment compared to last time I took it out. To my surprise the remington ammo shot better than the cci ammo.

After Thursday I had my mind set on taking it back but I don't know anymore, I am enjoying the gun quite a lot now!:)

Anyone else have any stories such as this or any stories about it at all, I would be interested in hearing them. If you have any questions maybe I can help.

My wife's first gun was a Mosquito. It ran OK using bulk ammo and 100% perfect on CCI Mini-Mags with the standard spring. They seem to need 400-500 rounds to break in and most people are happy if they let the gun break in and use quality ammo. Most, if not all, of the horror stories are from very early production models.

BTW...the Target Package is very cool and high quality ;)

So you are saying that the cci mini mags work better in yours? I don't know why but the bulk remingt target loads seem to work better in mine, guess I will be savinf bout 3 to 4 dollars each box lol:)

I have the Target PAckage:D I havn't tried shooting with the scope on yet but I have it ready to go for next outing.

What is the target package? Is that the reddot, holster deal?

yeah $540.00 here's a link http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/default.asp?Pg=8&do=3&mcid=1&scid=26&pid=449

nice gun almost wasted my money on the two tone from shooters choice for the same price before I found Wolverine :D

Our Mosquito went over 1,000 rounds without a single failure using CCI Mini-Mags. Lots of other owners also report best results using the Mini-Mags.

The Target Package is Sig's red dot sight and bridgemount. We bought the Target Package seperately from the gun for $110.

I used Remmington Dry Lube on the slide when I had mine and it functioned perfectly. It's regular diet was CCI mini-mags, but I was able to shoot sub-sonics through it.

I was tempted to pick up another one, but decided to buy an AA conversion kit for my Glock 17 instead.

I had the same ordeal, wanting to return it the next day. I was told it is picky about its diet. My dealer called Sig who e-mailed a four page test of all kinds of ammo. I agree with the mini mags they shot great after lubing the pistol. Good thing this info is getting out there because it is a great practice gun, and you can let very young kids into shooting with this fun package.

I am glad to hear other people enjoyed theirs! Those must have been old post or something that I was reading earlier because now all I hear are success stories. Sig pulls through yet again!

How Goes the Cleaning

I had a 22 Hammerali and the barrel kept leading up for some reason. Sold it and thought about the mosquito but have not taken the plunge because of my history with my previous gun.

Have you noticed any leading in the barrel. Has it been easy to keep it clean?

Curious.

I haven't noticed any leading and it is simple as anything to keep clean, I have only cleaned it once after shooting seeing as I only shot it once really cuz the first time I got all of 10 rounds down the tube:p. But it took about 15 minutes in total to clean and it looked better than new when I was done. Really easy to keep clean in my opinion.

Mosquito ammo

I have over 4000 rds through mine and couldn't be happier, mine for example does not like federal bulk, but eats up remington goldnens all day. Any problems I have had with the remingtons has been failure to fire, good stikes to the rim with no boom. tunderbolts have been pretty good too, but since the goldens work and are cheap I've stuck with them. cci minni mags seem to be the round that all of ths skeeters seem to like. In one of the prior posts it was mentioned that it seem to take 400 to 500 rounds to break it in, I too believe this to bee true. :)

Well I think I am just going to have to stick with my remington target loads seeing as that is what mine seems to enjoy eating up:) It is also a lot cheaper than those mini mags.

I just bought the Mosquito on Friday and was wondering if there would be performance issues with different brand of ammunition. Great to find this topic on the Mosquito. I’ll let you know how I make out after trying several brands of ammunition.

I tried a few types of ammo with my Mosquito

It does like mini mags, but I've really settled on Remington Thunderbolt. It will cycle them almost perfectly even with the heavy recoil spring. The only side effect of the T-bolts is that the gun does lead up after a while. Just make sure you run a brush through it every few cleanings to clear it all out.

After a brick of ammo has gone through it, the gun will be way happier. I have no regrets about getting this gun at all. She goes to the range with me every time!

Enjoy
