Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about getting a new pistol and have narrowed it down to these three (all in 9mm). I'd love to hear your thoughts/ opinions/ experiences with them if you're open to sharing. I don't compete yet but have a Shadowline for production class for if/when I start.

1) Sig P210 Standard (I like everything about this one, I've heard the sights on the standard aren't great though)
2) Dan Wesson PM-9 (It would be my first 1911, the void always calls me... I like the style and non-rail, bit worried about takedown and reliability in 9mm)
3) CZ Tactical Sport Orange (Bit worried it'll be close enough to my SP-01 Shadowline despite being SAO, especially with not competing)

What do you think?

Use to own a Sig P210 target USA model. Quality slide fitment, butter smooth, I fondled the gun everyday until I took it to the range.

Grips are amazing.

Dry fire practice in the basement, twice the trigger failed to reset (dead trigger), rack slide again and good to go.

Sights suck, replaced with a red fibre optic rod, helped a bit.

At the range one day, I put a mag in, chambered a round, went to shoot, dead trigger. Drop mag, clear chamber, drop slide, click. Did that 5 times in a row. Took it home, opened it apart to clean, couldn't see anything. Went back another time no issues.

Trigger breaks clean, but the reset is hardly noticeable. I got a Shadow 2 and the reset is tactile.

Couldn't group well with the gun.

Spare mags are $100 a pop.

No aftermarket support.

Want a good read? Here's a good reveiw I found: https://www.1911forum.com/threads/strikers-range-reviews-sig-usa-p210a-target.950690/

I always told the guys at the club, my Shadow 2 is half the price and twice the gun.

My next 9mm is going to be a CZ TSO/CZ TS2 racing green (looking to get the optic mount and stick a red dot on).

If CZ drops the Dan Wesson DWX tomorrow, I will buy that as well.

That doesn't sound like a good experience at all, but that's why I asked so I could hear the good and the bad.

The DWX I find extremely nice but I wish it didn't have a rail and was more in the classic 1911 style for having a smooth slide.

I've held a shadow two and found the grip to be slightly less comfortable than my SP-01 Shadowline, but still extremely nice and if I didn't get the one I did, I'd have a shadow 2.

1) I think you'll find the German made P210 to be superior to the US version. The most accurate 9mm in my safe.
2) Can't comment.
3) I had the regular CZ Tactical Sport in 9mm. Super accurate, great trigger, but I found it a bit heavy.

I have not had a german 210, would like one for bulls eye , but don't need it enough to spend the money There is a target model in the EE today, US ? I did not look that close.
9mm 1911, can't go wrong, take down, simple as any other gun, I can do it with my eyes closed.

If I were to go for the P210 is would definitely be the standard American version (can't afford the German/ Swiss ones). I know the other versions are better but cost wise they're double and triple.

I have the P210 Standard. It is a beauty. I have shot it like twice. The last time it would barely function, basically it would not complete a cycle each time. A good cleaning couldn't hurt, lube it up. I have none of the other guns. My CZ Shadow SP-01 is a h3lla good gun though. For the money I think the SP-01 is tops.

The BEST 9mm I ever shot was the Pardini GT9. Words cannot express how perfect this gun feels for me. Price and lack of support are the biggest obstacles to me owning one.

Lusted after the Sig P210. Finally got to shoot it (the one I shot was Made in Germany). Meh. The Pardini blows it away.

I have a Dan Wesson Specialist LASD 5" in 9mm. Shoots great, but mine is picky with magazines (I already threw out two of the ones that were included) and ammo. Using MecGars right now, but may add Wilson & Ed Brown mags to find something that it likes.

Favourite gun that I own is the CZ Shadow "Canadian Edition". BEST. GUN. FOR. THE. MONEY. Not the Shadow 2. That thing is too front heavy and needs a trigger job to hang with my Shadow 1 CE. Never shot the TSO. Looks nice, but another metal CZ?

Since you already have the Shadowline, I would say go for the DW. But don't be surprised if it isn't as dead nuts reliable as your CZ.

I have a Dan Wesson PM-9 and I'm entirely satisfied with it.
Great gun, tight and reliable (and I owned a couple high end ones).

Going "high end":

Pros: you will be one of a few, higher quality

Cons: less out there, less real world reviews, factory/aftermarket support minimal, harder to get rid of - few people willing to spend that kind of money

Go to #######: 9mm CZ handgun, most of what you will see for sale is SP-01 Shadows and Shadow 2's

I just recieved a Sig P226 Legion SAO yesterday, I am having mixed feelings, maybe that will change in a couple weeks when I hit the range.

There's is a bunch of nice pistols on my list but the one or two I really desire as said before is the TSO and DWX, a good compromise between price/performance

Wow that Pardini looks incredible, I tried taking a look for one on the market and it seems like a tough find. Fantastic suggestion, I had no idea they were a thing.

Another metal CZ sums up my thoughts on the TSO right now as well, but that being said the DW DWX whenever it releases would be high on my list of things to get my hands on. My Shadowline actually stovepipes quite a bit, but I'm using that cheap federal aluminum 115gr at the moment.

How's the trigger on the DW LASD edition?

That I agree with 100%, I wouldn't want to pass right around the $2-2.5K mark for the selling reason alone (although I plan to keep them for life).

What's giving you second thoughts with the Legion? That looks like a great pistol.

I am with you on that $2500 mark.

I find that the slide is stiff to rack and the hammer drops with quite the authority (heavy clunk). Mind you the example I bought was used but when I took it apart, the factory was still there. That short reset trigger though is damn nice. Like my friend said the S2 is a competition pistol whereas the P226 is a duty gun.

Not necessarily the worst gripes to have with a purchase (sounds nearly new), hopefully you're happy come range day.

Well said, it's honestly hard to beat shadows for what they bring to the table and the cost they do it for.

As the OP, I was looking for a 9mm handgun.

  • I looked at the SIG210 target
  • Tanfoglio, several models
  • and the CZ Shadow 2

The SIG was very nice, but what can you do nowadays with a single stack 9mm handgun, besides the occasional target practice?

All the Tanfoglios had a sloppy slide fit and the finish was not as good as the SIG or CZ

Finally I purchased the CZ Shadow 2. This is BY FAR the BEST of all the handguns mentioned above, excellent fit and finish and very accurate.

I agree with one poster's statement that the Shadow 2 is half the price of the SIG 210, but twice the gun.

I absolutely agree with that as well. If I didn't have my SP-01 Shadowline I'd have a Shadow 2 in my hands right now and the 210 wouldn't be on my list. Since I've already got it and prefer the grip to the S2, it's pushing me more towards that 210/DW type.

2 reviews on this thread about the P210's reliability....

That definitely doesn't bring me peace of mind and I don't think I'd be able to justify a german one at the costs they bring. Might end up just waiting for the DWX or getting a DW of some sort. The Sig in my opinion has to be one of the nicest looking pistols I've seen, but if it doesn't run then there's no point.
