I was wondering is someone could explain if the early Sig P220 in 45ACP (Eurpoean heel release series) accepted the standard 1911 45ACP magazines.

ANy clarification would be great as they seem to be similar in scale.

Mine is a button release. It does not accept 1911 mags readily, and I've never tried running ammo through it at the range with that configuration. I have Act Mag 8 rounders that are excellent mags, so it really is a non-issue. I would highly recommend the Act mags.

**Edited** my magazines for the 220 are actually Act Mags, not Mecgars.

I have a P220 European. I tried putting a 1911 magazine in it. The magazine locks securely in place but there is a gap at the bottom of the magazine well. It appears that the 1911 magazines are slimmer. The magazine sits solidly in place though. I didn't try to cycle any ammo through the gun. The Sig magazine does not fit in the 1911.
