Hi just wondering if I buy a sig p226 in .40 can I just buy a 9mm barrel for it to shoot 9mm or do i have to buy a 9mm slide also? and wondering the same question for the sig p229, thanks

It goes .40 to 357SIG and not 9MM. A SIG 226 in 9MM is the perfect 9MM for me so I wanna keep it like that. Want to get a 220 some day also :D

Don't know how reliable it will be, but Yes, you can get a 9mm barrel for your .40 P226! but regular 9mm barrel (factory sig) won't work. It has to be a special conversion barrel (forgot who makes it)...

IIRC with P226 you'll need 9mm mags, but with P229 you can use .40 mags...but there might be an issue with POI/POA...

Yes, according to BarSto, you can get their 9mm barrel made specifically for the 40S&W slide. Haven't heard of anyone who actually uses it however. So know nothing about reliability. You will need 9mm mags as the 40 mags won't feed right.

(Barsto of course also makes 9mm replacement barrels for the actual 9mm slide.)

I have a Sig 229 elite with a conversion barrel from .40 to 9mm. It works fine, I didn't replace springs or mags at all. Theoretically, I suppose that you should buy 9mm mags, but I didn't and it works fine.

both barrels are made by EFK FireDragon.

You need a slide, barrel, ejector, locking insert and replacing the recoil spring and hammer spring may also be necessary depending on what vintage your 9mm P226 is.

So basically no, you can't do it, unless you get one of the special conversion barrels referenced above.

I know someone who had a 9mm barrel for a .40 Glock and he seemed to think it worked okay, just that the sights were way, way off from POI.
