Hey everyone. I recently purchased a Sig P226 (stainless) Elite which comes with rosewood wooden grips. I would like to replace the rosewood grips with some black VG Grips which are made of a durable G10 material, I'm afraid that the wooden grips will get marked up too easily and would like to save them. The Elite has a beavertail and I'm not sure that the standard P226 grips will fit properly on the Elite. I've emailed VZ Grips to see if they would fit but unfortunately they are not sure either.

Does anyone know if the standard P226 grips will fit on the P226 Elite?

Are the grip screws on the standard P226 the same size as the P226 Elite?

Any help in this area would be greatly appreiated - THANKS!

Yup, the grips will fit, but you'll probably need shorter screws. Not sure how thick the VZ grips are, but that was the case when I went to Hogue G10s on mine.

Thanks for the response!

Did the shorter screws come with the Hogue grips?
Did you buy shorter screws?
Did you cut/shorten the original screws?

They came separately from Hogue. I wanted stainless screws anyways for black grips so I just called 'em up and asked them what I needed. Had the order done in about 7 minutes. I would definitely recommend them, if just for their customer service.

Also I should mention, I'm not sure if they're still floating around, but Hogue had a run of stainless screws that were made out of a steel that was harder than the frame, so if you overtightened them, the frame would strip out before the screws (that's bad). I can't for the life of me remember how you identify them, (the packaging was different) but if you decide to buy some from a shop rather than order them, be sure to sort out which is which.

Where did you guys buy the longer screws?! I'm in a similar situation, my stock screws are too short for my very thick hogue grips.

Best bet is from Hogue themselves. I assume you went from stock plastic to some sort of woooooooood?

Just reread this. Isn't that their business?!

I received an email response from the owner so it sounds like it is a small business. He basically told me that he doesn't have an Elite on hand so he wasn't sure if their grips would fit on it. It sounds like I was the first person to ask him this question and I was also surprised that he didn't know. I'll email him back to let him know that their grips will fit on an Elite for future reference.

I've had a quick look at the Hogue web site and it wouldn't surprise me if I get one of their grips.

They are very nice. There's a picture somewhere around here of my SSE with the black checkered ones if you wanna have a look.

That's funny. I just ordered the same Black G10 Checkered Grips with 3 sets of the stainless steel hex screws.

You should shoot Sniper### a PM and see if you can add a set of the long screws to your order. If he orders just the screws, he's gonna get raaaaaaaaaped on shipping. Just a thought.

Hogue are great to deal with and they have an ever increasing product line. I've ordered both aluminum and the G-10 grips for different model Sig's from them in the past. I like both but I think I like the G-10's better as they don't get really hot in the sun or really cold on cold days at the range and though mine have held up fine other people report that the finish on the aluminum ones can chip off with hard use.

G-10 are hawt!
