So I have a P226 Navy. I love the gun, think it's the best thing since sliced bread. It's super comfortable and just a treat to shoot. Long story short, I was at the range today, and my friend had a P226 elite. WOW!! The stock wooden grips are even more comfortable then mine, and the trigger reset... well rapped fire was defiantly smoother with this model. Anyway, my question is this. Does the Elite come with the short reset trigger kit from sig? My friend bought the gun used so we don't know if it was standard or if the last owner installed it. I did buy the kit for my Navy a few years ago, but never put it in because I felt I didn't need it. If this is what I can expect from the SRT kit, I would like to instal it. So if anyone knows the answer I would love to know. Thanks...

Factory SRT trigger and beavertail are excellent upgrades in the Elite model. I never understood the "Navy" edition being worth more money than the base 226 just for putting an anchor on it and little else but I guess that's marketing. The Elite does have actual upgrades.

Both my elites came with the SRT. If you're comfortable detail stripping the 226, installing the SRT is very easy. You will have the same trigger. Worth noting. My 229/226/220 all have SRT (the 229 was installed after I bought it) all feel slightly different. FWIW.

It's the coating that is on the gun. It can stay submerged in salt water with out rusting, or something to that effect. I remember reading that they designed it for the seals to use when they were jumping into oceans and stuff. How true that is I have no idea.

SRT trigger can be bought as a separate kit and installed in any P226 pistol...for what I know SIG request to be installed only by a licensed gunsmith.

That's true. From what I understand it will void your warranty. But so does detail striping the pisot. WTF?

I wonder who screwed up a detail strip so bad, that sig now voids warranties if you do it yourself? I think I would get a gunsmith to do it properly the first time. That way if he breaks it, he buys it!!! I find with most aftermarket parts you need to finesse them a bit anyway. I just don't have the tools to do that kind of work myself.

I'd imagine it's along the same lines as: shooting reloads will void your warranty. They can't control how stupid their customers are. You could bend a spring too far, or remove all the grease/lubrication from some critical spot. So they cover their behinds by saying "don't do it, pay one of our factory certified gunsmiths to do it for you". Plus they make more money that way... They even have a program where you can send your used SIg to them and for "only" about 100 bucks, they (basically detail strip and inspect if for you) if they find an issue (you still have to pay for the repair, done by them). Not a great deal IMHO.
