I am going to buy ONE of these pistols new or mint used. I would welcome opinions from anyone who wants to chime in on merits/drawbacks of each. I had my heart set on a 226 however the Walther is getting generally stellar reviews for accuracy and trigger. I am not an expert. I have owned a G17 gen 4 and a cheap Norc 34. FOR ME the Norc was more accurate and I could not shoot the G17 accurately AT ALL. The Walther is also many hundreds less but mags are unobtainium. Sigs are getting brutal in price new........discuss

thx

I have a 226 Dark Elite and a PPQ M2 Navy. I shoot them often, so I can tell you my .02 for my experiences and my hands and my shooting style - both for fun and IDPA

Triggers are, obviously, different. One is a DA/SA and the other striker. PPQ wins, and I would go on to say that it is the best striker fired trigger in a pistol out there at the moment. Better than the HK SFP9 too.

Recoil: Aluminum vs Polymer. The PPQ, owing to it's polymer construction, will be a tad more "snappy". The 226 is heavier, so it absorbs the recoil better, and the beaver tail helps (me at least) with a higher grip. But, we're talking about a 9mm here; not a 460 SW. Everything is relative. Sig wins

Follow up shots: The SRT on the Sig is amazing, and makes double taps quick and easier. The PPQ's trigger allows me to make triple taps in the same amount of time though. Maybe that's just me, but I prefer the PPQ, ftw.

Parts: No contest; the Sig wins this easily. More parts, more options, more service. I'm dreading the day my Walther needs servicing......

Longevity: I don't know, but the Sig is in service with armed forces around the world and up until recently with the SEALs as well. It's a very robust platform and will quite likely outlive me. There are stories of barrels being shot smooth in a Sig, but the gun keeps working just fine. Plenty of ranges have Sigs for rent too. The PPQ is a Police pistol first and foremost - it was never designed to pass any kind of military trials, so I would consider it not as robust as a Sig. Sig wins.

Quality: Tie. Both are excellent.

Sights: My Sig has the factory night sites, which are quite effective for the distances and circumstances they were designed to be used in. The PPQ came with plastic sights. Assuming you leave them stock, Sig wins.

Magazines: Sig mags are everywhere. PPQ? Hahahahahaha

Grip: Sigs have more options, and, mine has a beaver tail, which I personally like. Mine came with the E2 grips and the red rosewood Sig grips. But, I swapped them out for set of Hogue rubber grips, which I prefer. The PPQ comes with 3 different back straps but no side panels and no other options. I have the largest backstrap on mine and then put rubberized Talon Grips around that. IMO, Sig wins.

I wish there was more walther parts out there. Mags... haha Melnibonean. I had the .40 M2 "5 version and it shot amazing. Loved that gun!
I have a sig p226 equinox now though and i'm a very happy guy. Very happy.
I know the sig will last long and also I'm confident that when something wears out, it won't be out of action for long

Two of my favorite, bit if i need to choose only one, i would get a P226. Like mentioned above PPQ are great, but good luck finding parts/mags/holster...Hard to compare a PPQ with a P226, they are not the same type of handgun.
You could compare a P226 with a 92 and a PPQ with a Glock.
If you have the budget to get a Sig, grab one.
We all say : "Only one" but you'll get both anyway in future...and one more...and one more....ohhh i don't have a revolver... ohh look at this deal.... (we are all the same hahaha)

PPQ mags can be purchased from Irunguns and pinned prior to importation.
For parts, historically I've always used Wolverine supplies for HK and Walthers, not sure if they still order parts in.
Otherwise get one of the importation companies like Prophet River...more affordable if you're only bringing in parts.

Forget the 226 Elite/Navy, just get the base model (used or a reconditioned one) if you can find it. Also look on the EE as they drop in price on the used market. I'm biased as I shoot the Sig 226 platform the best, it just fits like a glove... well balanced, soft shooting and if you buy a 9mm you can run 40 (Checkmate) mags in it.

When our dollar sh!t the bed, everything went up in price, not just Sig's.

You are comparing apples vs oranges, a striker fired vs DA/SA. I've tried striker fired pistols and have always gone back to my Beretta 92/Sig 226. Everyone is different, up to you to decide.

I think it depends on what you want to do with it. I have owned both, love the Sig 226 but for 3 gun matches I hated it because I had to decock it every time I holstered it and then every time I went to use it again that damn DA pull sucked. Also, I have smaller hands and the Sig was just a little to big. So, while it was a spectacular pistol that was 100% reliable it was not great for competition use. The PPQ is a much better fit, for me anyways, as I can just holster and unholster it without worrying about decock, also, it fits my hand much better. I think accuracy was about on par with the two.

Either one, you can't go wrong.

I was in the same spot today. I'd been waffling between Glock 17, Sig 226, Beretta M9A3 and Walther of some sort.

So I went down to my local store and fondled them all. The Glock is nice. Trigger is mushy. Sig is classic and reliable but I've already got a Norc version. Beretta is awesome but I found when I racked the slide I would inadvertantly turn the safety on or off and with the slide style decock it also.

But once I had my hands on a Walther PPQ Navy it changed my mind completely. The trigger is crisp and the pistol just "feels" good. They didn't have any model other than the Navy with the thread protector so I had to go home empty handed.

Not two hours ago I pulled the "trigger" on a Walther PPQ M2 9mm from Wolverine Supplies. $1050.00 all in to my door and a holster for it from Amazon (IMI) for an additional $50.00. I'm super pumped and looking forward to it.

I have a p226 Xtreme and PPQ. I also use them for IDPA. Melnibonean provided an excellent summary which mirrors my opinion.

That said, my PPQ is my go to, replacing my Glock 17.

Thank you everyone for chiming in and congrats on the purchase.

Sig with a short reach / short reset trigger = best shooting platform I've enjoyed. I've had 2 stainless elites, 9 mm and .40, an M11-A1 (P228/P229) and now own a TacOps 9mm. You really can't go wrong, they just kick ass.

I started with the stainless elite in .40 as my first pistol. Couldn't control the .40 very well so decided to try glocks, H&k, CZ.. now I'm back to Sig again for my last three because I LOVE the way the trigger feels. Always liked the look of Walther but as some people say, harder to find parts and accessories.

You're going to want to get rid of that IMI holster. They're cheap as hell and don't hold your gun securely. Like, it will stay in there, but it'll rattle around causing excess holster wear. I suggest you get it refunded before it ships if you have time! Not sure if they make them for yours, but the BlackHawk Serpa CQC isn't too expensive and is very well made, as well as the 5.11 Thumbdrive, both sell around $70-80
