Sig P226 recoil spring broken

Hey guys, I got a bit of an issue here with my sig. As you can see from the pictures, it is split in half. Originally when I bought the pistol off the EE I noticed that the spring overlapped in the middle. This being my first pistol and introduction to the world of handguns and <insert silly reason here of why I'd think this is normal> I carried on. After I took it apart (230 rounds later) I noticed that it was broken. So i got two questions: First is what weight of recoil spring will I need to replace it? It's an older Sig p226 made in West Germany, 9mm. second is personal curiosity, is there any benefit to putting in a heavier or lighter spring then what would have came with it stock?

I was just looking at a spring kit for my sig on the Questar site listed at the top of the forum page. You order the kit as per caliber.

Wolff springs are shipping to Canada again - buy a factory strength spring, the only thing you get from playing with spring rates as a non-competitive shooter, is a gun that doesn't work properly. Competition shooters balance the ammo, springs, and everything else to their particular shooting style and game - they most certainly aren't shooting factory ammo through a 226.

if you are not a realoder, there is no reason whatsoever for you to order custom springs.
Order the factory and be happy. That spring is long overdue for a change, testimony of the quality of your gun?

Now that you are at it, I would check for the roll pins of the slide, even if they are ok I would put new ones, those might need replacement as well (assuming your W. german is a folded carbon slide // early sigs). You do not really know how long this gun has been fired for with a broken spring, hence, the roll pins might be crushed or almost crushed (the actual reason why new sigs do not use carbon folded slides anymore).
