Debating getting a 226 9mm or a 229 in .40 with the factory extended bbl. I have only held the 229 briefly though.

Pros/Cons between the two?

Smalls hands get a short trigger for the 226
Big hands get hogue rubber grips

The 226 is a better shooter hands down. Unless your trying to hide your gun in your clothing or just think the 229 looks cool.
Remember a longer sight radius means easier sight alinement.

The only legal SIG with a smaller grip would been the Euro P220 in 9mm
 
I own both except my 226ST is in .40 and my 229 is in 9mm (my rationale being to have the "stouter" calibre in the bigger/heavier gun to tame recoil). Both are very accurate but I was really surprised to discover that the 229 was every bit as accurate as the 226 in my hands (and I have fairly large hands, the 226 is definitely a more comfortable fit for me). While the general consensus on the 229 both here and in the US is that it is quite accurate, it might well be that the required extended barrel length on our 229s gives it just that little bit more in the accuracy department. You can't go wrong with either the 229 or the 226.
 
I have owned my Sig P226 9mm for "Donkey Years" and it has never given me any grief. I have never seen anything that a 40 S&W does better than a good 9mm or 45acp. Now if you could get your hands on it, I would take a good P228 over the P226. Regards, Richard:)
 
I have both and even though I have large hands the 229 just seems to feel better and I seem to be a little more accurate with it. Remember that the 229was designed for the .40 and with a simple barrel swap you can shoot .357 Sig. It just comes down to what ever feels best for you. It's all Sig "goodness" though so you can't go wrong with either.
