SIG P320 .45ACP not interchangeable, no caliber exchange

I spoke with SIG customer service rep today to clear this up, as I had hopes of using a calibre exchange kit in my 9mm P320.

I was told clearly that the .45ACP P320 currently shipping is not interchangeable with other calibres as its Fire Control Unit (FCU) was wider than the other unit common in the 9mm/.40/.357 .

I also asked if the grip module from the .45ACP P320 (I was looking at a fullsize bronze grip model ) could be swapped into my 9mm P320, and the answer was no. The grip module on the P320 .45ACP is wider to accomodate the new FCU, and was made so the other FCUs will not fit in it.

Makes perfect sense - the same way you can't have a short action Rem 700 in 300 win mag. If you want a 45 it must have different internal dimensions. The only other option is to build the smaller calibres on the larger frame - which is generally a bad compromise because you end up with a heavier, less efficient 9mm.

Perhaps it makes sense, perhaps not.

The original thought around the P320 calibre compatibility was going to be the same as the P250 which has a .45ACP conversion kit available for it. (9mm/357/40/45)

SIG's original PR on the P320 was that conversion across all calibres would be possible with 1 pistol.

So I can see why some people, such as myself, are a bit disappointed with the news, but still happy that the P320 45ACP is out.

Don't forget that the FCU that NickTdot mentions is this little chummy--it's swappable between frames; it was reasonable to expect that this would work in different frame sizes.

I watched a video on this just before work today. The mags are different sizes, as well as some differences in the FCU like the ejector being different size, as well as the part i outlined in orange exists on the 9mm/357/40 versions and not the 45. I'll post the video in the morning when i get home.
