Here is a loaded question that we have been debating at my LGS and range.

I am pitting the Sig Sauer P320 X-Five Legion against the CZ Shadow 2. These are both out of the box competition ready pistols but is there a clear winner and why. I know the Sig Sauer P320 X-Five Legion is a striker fired tungsten infused beauty and the CZ Shadow 2 is an all steel hammer fired DA/SA and is super smooth. Price wise they are very close. What are your thoughts and why. Is there a clear winner?

I have not fired the Sig, but I have handled it and I do own a CZ Shadow 2 which I have put circa 5000 rounds through. So there may be bias and you can see the limits of my experience.

Purely from handling and dry firing alone alone I lean significantly to the CZ. The reason for this is that the CZ feels significantly more balanced and smooth. It's trigger is sublime, I doubt you'll ever see a factory made pistol come with a better trigger (not just lighter but smoother). In both DA/SA.

To me personally I feel like the CZ didn't have to try nearly so hard to go from a military/police issue pistol to a fantastic competition ready pistol. From the get go the CZ75 has always been great in both military and target shooting roles.

I don't believe the same can be said for the Sig, it's good but not good enough and that is not a bad thing. I just simply believe that the Sig has had to be changes a lot more to achieve less than the CZ due to inherent design differences.

But pistols are extremely personal tools so it might be that you come to a very different conclusion to me.

My advice, handle both in person.

Too many kabooms with the Sig. Wouldn't buy one.

I'm also a CZ S2 owner with 5000 rounds through it in less than 2 months. Taking a break now that IPSC is over for the season. I changed a few springs and the disconnector for competition and I completely love the S2. Wish I had upgraded sooner. Surprised it's that different from the SP-01 Shadow.

This week I will be trying these 2 beauties at the range as I have two friends that each own one. Both are top tier in their respective categories. Either way I will be a winner for just being able to try them.

Had a shadow 2, couldn't get used to the double action. Single action was amazing. Did a mc carbo spring change and it made the trigger almost too reactive for what I could get used to. I came from shooting a lot of glock and striker fired.. I couldn't get used to the shadow 2 at all.. It wasn't for me. Fast forward to my legion x5. Amazing. Love the way it points. Stopped shooting my Zev OZ9 for the P320 X5 legion. Put about 3000 rounds through it now and still love every aspect of it. But what can I say, I love my striker fired pistols.

When comparing these 2 pistols, personal preference will take over. They are 2 very different platforms. And while I agree the CZ shadow 2 is an amazing firearm, it just wasn't for me.

Two points for newbies to DA/SA guns:

1) my Shadow 2 came with a 15lb mainspring. I use an 11lb mainspring, and that spring change will reduce the DA pull weight quite a lot. I’m also using a lighter trigger return spring and that helps too.

2) dryfire will get you used to the DA pull fairly quickly. As you gain experience, you can start prepping the trigger off the draw too.

Thanks Jimbo14. I am a striker fired guy so your points are well noted and appreciated. I will be at the range tomorrow to give then a test run.

Spuhalsky seems like we both moved on from our Zev's. I am going to keep an open mind tomorrow and see how they feel.

Shot 50 rounds through each and they are both winners to me. Each has pros and cons.
Grip: My hand felt more natural on the P320 x5 Legion. Love that tungsten infused grip module.
Trigger: The P320 x5 Legion trigger was exceptional I have to give the slight edge to the CZ Shadow 2 - flawless.
Sights: I was able to better acquire the sights on the P320 x5 Legion better during rapid fire. I think it was due to the weight in the dust cover.
Fit and finish: I have to give it to the CZ Shadow 2.
Mag well: The P320 x5 Legion mag well is like a vacuum. Tough to miss.

As these pistols are in 2 different categories I think I will need to get one of each. To all owners of either pistol. You have a winner.

Acquiring sights better is your fundamentals with two different grip angles.
It does not make a gun better or worse because you can't find an untrained natural point of aim with a 12 degree vs 14degree grip.

Honest question, do you believe the gun will make you better?
The answer is no.

It must be reliable. 80k round reliability, not 5k a year.
It must be trustworthy. Equipment failure because you didn't clean it perfectly is not acceptable. (Cough, cough every shadow ever)
Absolutely most importantly

Buy what youre drawn into.
1, you'll want to train with it
2, you'll have more fun.
3, cost of ammo will dwarf cost of gun

As someone who's trained with both and has won two nats I don't know much. I do know, I could win with a $250 norinco the same i won with dvc's.

No canadian is good enough to need a gun that might provide a recoil management 0.01 better.
Heavy, light, balance, not - is all Preference and not a winning combination due to marketing or exposure.

I got a shadow 2 because they went on sale. 30k ish rounds later, and a few spring swaps, and I love it.

Made A class my first year in IPSC.

Snooze too bad we can't practice together I bet there's a lot you could show me!
