There is 3 sizes available in Canada ( Barrel length )

1. 20.79"..........Black special , blue special and classic green ( NON restricted )
2. 17.9 " .......... Carbine version ( restricted )
3. 8.9" .......... CQB version ( restricted )

I read this in another post ... this is for the .223/5.56 nato round version correct? Does anyone know if the .308/7.62 version has come to Canada yet? Cheers fellow CGNer's,

p.s. if I purchased a 20.79 inch Blue Star special ... I could get it cut down to 18.5 as that's the shortest NON-restricted length in Canada right? Please help as any advice, info, etc is appreciated ... :?: :?

The .308 is still in its testing phase dont expect to see it on the market for quite a while

Cutting down a 3k rifle for an inch and a half of extra compactness is definately not what you want to be doing...They are just fine at 20" :)

I have found one at a price that you all wouldn't believe ... and yes I do want to cut it down ... question is ... can it be done with that bloody ball/bayonet thingy on it? Or can it be re-barrelled with a custom barrel?

p.s. it would be soooo sweet in .308 for damn sure ... :(

Could this be cut-down to 18.5 inches ... with that blood bayonet bubble thingy on there? Could a custom barrel be attached? Where are the SIG experts? Thanks for any help my fellow CGNer's,

p.s. please feel free to also give me sheit or tease me if it TRULY is wrong to want to do this to such a fine rifle ... as cpt.canuck has done ...

Bubba alert!

You could cut off the flash hider which is integral and therefore considered part of the OAL. This would probably be all you could take off and still be non restricted.

Are you guys in 24hrs darkness or something when is the last time you saw the Sun Otokiak,? I think you have been in the dark too long and have gone mad. Please don't bubba a PE90.

Remember that the stock folds which gives you about ten inches or so on amy other .223. :D

Plus I bet it would mess with the rifles great ballistics.

Ok thanks my fellow CGNer's for replying and info on this type of rifle ... I will NOT cut this barrel ...

Yeah.. Don't cut the barrel.

You could wind up with something that looks like mine (and can you imagine how many US dollars I paid for this thing?).

Holy cow buy it. Buy it right now! :!:

OTOKIAK ..............The picture from Keith Buckner is a SIG 551 , it is the equivalent of our carbine version , although ours is the LB ( long barrel ) . The 551 comes in 2 versions , ours is the LB and is approx 3.6" longer than standard size . The 2 barrel lengths are 17.9" and 14.3" .

Otokiak,
That was , originally a SIG 551-LB barrel. Long knecked, with Gas Ring, like the longer PE90 barrel at the muzzle.

I cut off the FH and threaded it. Then I cut the barrel down to 14.5", turned down the gas ring, and threaded the muzzle, as well.

THEN I welded the FH to the threads to give me an OAL of just over 16" (minimum US length).

I reparked the barrel and re-installed it. I did the work myself, but any competent smith can do this work. This is a preban 550 receiver with one of the 551-LB kits (sold by CCF) built onto it.

IT's as close to a 551-SWAT I can get (in the US) without registering it as a SBR.

My intent was to show you how a barrel looks after removal of the gas ring (the knob). A PE90 done similarly would look about the same at the muzzle. You can click the image in my post and get a LARGER pic!

Good luck with your project,
KB

Keith, HOLY FARK is all I gotta say ... if you can do your own work and know the skills to chop, thread, re-place your own sheit ... cheers mate ... that's awesome ... I still want this thing to be 18.5 with a flash-hider on it ... but WON'T chop it ... what do you do eh?!?! :?

I should hopefully have this thing in my possession by next week ... can't wait to shoot it again ... sweeeeeeeet!

p.s. gotta get a decent scope for her and then it's all off to SKULLBOY to be painted ... well I gotta ask him if he'll do the painting 1st and also gotta decide which camo-job I want her dressed in??? Woodland, tiger-strip, cadpat, marpat ... what do you guys/gals think? :?

The standard full lenght barrel is only about 19"... the 20" lenght includes the flash hider. There is not much point to trying to cut one down as the only legal reduction will come from cutting of the flash hidder and maybe a 1/2" of rifled barrel. If you really want to try I have a good condition used PE90 full lenght barrel forsale on the board here as I've replaced it with a 1:7" twist full lenght barrel.

are the Sig's still going for 8000.00+ in the USA ?

The civvie legal 55X series rifles that were imported by 1989 are at that price, or higher (just as ANYTHING that is no longer attainable would increase in cost).

What is MORE amazing is that MGs that sold for only $400 to $600 (1/3 the cost of the SIG rifles, at that time) before the 1986 act, are at even HIGHER prices that that.

Newly imported SIG 55X rifles currently being sold to LE/Gov are comparable to the prices you are paying.
