Wondering if anyone has experience with the SIG 226 .22 pistol. I'm looking for a .22 LR handgun that has decent reliability and accuracy and also has standard semiauto operating features (unlike say the Ruger Models 1 thru 4), and isn't also cheap crap. It will have to run well on the current cheapass bulk ammo available, I want it in order to save on ammo money. The SIG seems to be my best bet so far, I like the feel and factory sights at least, but since it's in a store have no opportunity to shoot one or even pull the trigger. Any feedback? Other suggestions are welcome of course, but don't say a Ruger M&P 22, I have one of those.

The sig 22 Classic is a P226 frame with 22lr conversion slide, so the trigger will be the same as any standard P226 9mm. You can also buy a 9mm, 40 or 357sig conversion slide for them too. The SIG classic I had was very accurate and reliable with proper ammo, the only down side is the slide does not hold open after last round.

pretty reliable, great gun to train on and easily convertible to 9mm with a exchange kit. Works best with minimags.

+1. The only complaint I have about it is that the magazines don't lock the slide back on the last round. There were after market mags to remedy this issue but I never bothered to buy any since I now pretty much just shoot my CZ Kadet.:)

unless u have big hands...consider the Browning 1911 - 22.

I have fairly big hands and still would highly recommend this Browning. Out of close to 10,000 rounds of every type of ammo, it has never malfunctioned once. I haven't changed a spring or done anything to this pistol. I take my son and his friends to the range and they quite frequently shoot over a 1000 rounds per session with no cleaning. Great 22 in my opinion, and I have 8 other 22 pistols to compare it to.

I got my wife a Classic a few years ago for her birthday. As others have said, it's a reliable and accurate shooter. Hers is somewhat picky on ammo (seems to work best with cci minimags) and likes being kept clean and lubed. Buildup of crud on the feedramp is something to watch out for.

For the last round hold open, GSDesigns makes a 3d printed magazine with hold open. We've got three of them and they all work well.

I had one, it was good for the most part... problem I had with it was reliability. It was fine with the fancy bullets but horribly unreliable with any of the stuff I can get around here.

Also the slide wouldn't lock back on the last round, drove me nuts

This SIG P226 Classic and a 9mm top end all sitting on an E2 Grip'ed lower/receiver/frame is my go-to pistol for training (clients and myself). It's a wonderful rig for muscle memory training and also fits all of my holsters I compete with (Safariland 7TS, 6378, 7378 series)

Buy what works for you and your needs, and your budget, and your gear setup , and your brand loyalty (fan boys?), and your LCF (looks cool factor), and your shooting game!

Cheers,
Barney

The Sig Classic in 22lr is a great gun, very accurate and fits well in the hand, I have had one for about a year now. I found the best ammo is CCI minimag, no jams, failure to feed or eject. It doesn't have the hold open on the mags, but can be modified. I also bought a couple of extra mags from GS designs in Guelph. If I remember they were 39 bucks each. These are made on a 3D printer, have the hold open feature and work quite well. I did have to shorten the spring as it was almost impossible to get 10 rounds in it. I'm now in the market for the 9mm conversion kit.
