With my eyes getting older and having increasing difficulty with traditional sights, I had been contemplating upgrading to an optic-ready pistol for a year or so. I already owned a SIG Sauer P226 Enhanced Elite and a CZ SP-01 Shadow and shot equally well (equally OK is probably more accurate) with either, so I limited my search to optic-ready variations of these models.

When I finally settled upon the CZ Shadow 2 Optic-Ready, its price went up 25% overnight, from $1,400 to $1,900. Adding a mounting plate and a basic red dot sight brings the price north of $2,400.

This sudden increase in price led me to reconsider my choice. I started looking more seriously at the SIG Sauer P226 Legion RXP (DA/SA), which for $2,000, roughly the same price as a CZ Shadow 2 OR, already comes with a SIG Sauer Romeo 1 Pro and suppressor-height sights. In the end, I opted for the Legion.

Having owned a P226 in a form or another for the last three years, I already had an idea as to what to expect when I took the Legion out to the range for the first time.

The first thing I noticed (or didn't notice) is the trigger feel. In spite of some Legion owners' rave reviews of the Gray Guns' adjustable trigger, I didn't notice a difference between the Enhanced Elite and the Legion's triggers. They are both great triggers, but maybe because the Enhanced Elite had more rounds through, it had already smoothed itself.

I also didn't notice that the other subtle improvements made to the Legion, such as the G10 grips, checkering, low-profile controls, smaller beavertail or the X5 cut behind the trigger, made any perceivable difference. Still, my grouping at 10 meters was slightly tighter with the Legion.

I don't know if I can attribute this result to the minute difference in triggers, or to the compound effect of all the subtle improvements. Perhaps I was just having a good day, or maybe it's because I was finally able to focus on my target rather than just seeing a blur beyond my front sight.

In any event, being able to have both the red dot and the target in focus simultaneously is definitely worth the upgrade from the Enhanced Elite to the Legion RXP.

Shout-out to Rangeview Sports for a pleasant transaction and quick shipping!

I am looking forward to my next outing.
